Dorner manhunt: Charred human remains found in burned cabin
Los Angeles Times ^ | Feb. 13, 2013 | Andrew Blankstein & others

Charred human remains have been found in the burned cabin where police believe fugitive ex-cop Christopher Dorner was holed up after trading gunfire with law enforcement, authorities said.

If the body is identified to be Dorner’s, the standoff would end a weeklong manhunt for the ex-LAPD officer and Navy Reserve lieutenant who is believed to be responsible for a string of revenge-fueled shootings following his firing by the Los Angeles Police Department several years ago. Four people have died, allegedly at Dorner’s hands.

Yes, it is a USN lieutenant insignia. A USN lieutenant is the equivalent of an Army, Marine, or USAF captain. The rank order in the Navy is: ensign, lt. junior grade, lieutenant; while the other services go 2d lieutenant, 1st lieutenant, captain.

I am not familiar with Naval ranks. Army Captain has two silver bars, “Railroad tracks”, which a picture of Dorner had on a cammo shirt he was wearing. Is this a lieutenant insignia like the article says?

Navy ensign = Army 2nd Lt

Navy Lt junior grade = Army 1st Lt

Navy Lt = Army captain

That would be strange, gien the initial account I heard was these two deputies were the first to ID Dorner and were pretty much shot at the outset.

Maybe they shot each other.

Janet Reno pretty much stated as much in an emotional interview where they asked her why they did what they did.

So which people were the cops protecting when they shot up the two girls delivering newspapers? How about surfing dude? Cops have no personal responsibility for screw ups. They can murder and just get fired. This whole cop on cop spree simply was illustrative and educational to say the least.

Cops should live where they work and be exposed to personal civil and criminal action like everybody else. Government has too much power and a lack of personal accountability for the participants.

I want small government with small powers. Things need to change. Any Freeper who supports modern Police powers is not a small government conservative.

Navy Lieutenant = O-3, same as Army/Marine/Air Force Captain

All wear 2 silver “railroad track” bars

They had no intention of sparing him. He scared them and fear is not a good feeling, especially when they are of the belief the environment is theirs.

Yes,it is. In the Navy, a Captain is the same officer level and carries the same insignia as and Army Colonel.

If tear gas won’t flush him, talking to him won’t either.

“The cops murdered Dorner by purposefully burning him to death.”

That would be my take as well... If their intent was to kill him instead bringing him to stand trial, it would be murder.

It’s a slippery slope if this country condones it and allows it to happen. Seems to me that it needs to go before a grand jury.

“there was a good chance he could have been waited out, starved out, and extracted alive”

Being practical, how was he able to survive almost a week without food and water? He supposedly carried a large supply of guns and ammo. How in the world did he keep hijacking cars and maintain his stuff?? Did those vacant cabins have supplies of food?

That’s what loudspeakers are for.

Are you saying that you don't think that he knew the police were out there and that they wanted him to come out with his hands up???

I don’t know police procedure.

But isn’t burning the place to the ground somewhere around #7 on the list of “Things to Try On Holed Up Shooters?”

He had pill boxes in that cabin from what I can ascertain. Maids caught him.

Ammo bursting for hours means he had been there before his retreat to that cabin.

Thanks for posting those Youtube clips. I found the infowars article on Drudge and posted it precisely because it contained those clips. Both clips are vitally important and will be at the core of what will probably become a Rodney King size media forestorm in coming weeks. Indeed, if the authorities can’t explain them, they will be strong evidence that, after surrunding Dorner, they deliberatey incinerated Dorner instead of genuinely trying to capture him and hold him for trial. Since everybody, from the FBI on down, was involved, it will be quite a media circus.

Not sure if you know the answer, others may. Is fire setting equipment and practices a normal police tactic? I know the Reno and Co. caused the fire at Waco but I don’t recall ever hearing about LEO’s purposely setting personal property on fire. If was the cabin owner I’d be damned pissed off.

You don’t build a fancy police state with all the bells & whistles that this one has if you don’t intend to use it some day.

re: “Vigilantism is the inevitable result when people no longer have any faith in the legal system’s ability to impose justice.”

There’s “vigilantism” and there’s just plain murder. Dorner murdered the daughter of his lawyer and her fiance - two people who had nothing to do with what he claims happened to him. He also indiscrimitely killed a police officer (who was a former Marine)and was just sitting in a vehicle with another officer (who was also murdered).
