After backlash from customers, the producer of Maker’s Mark bourbon is reversing a decision to cut the amount of alcohol in bottles of its famous whiskey. Rob Samuels, Maker’s Mark’s chief operating officer, said Sunday that it is restoring the alcohol volume of its product to its historic level of 45 percent, or 90 proof. Last week, it said it was lowering the amount to 42 percent, or 84 proof, because of a supply shortage. “We’ve been tremendously humbled over the last week or so,” Samuels, grandson of the brand’s founder, said of customers’ reactions. The brand known for its square bottles sealed in red wax has struggled to keep up with demand. Distribution has been squeezed, and the brand had to curtail shipments to some overseas markets.

In the day, 20 years or more ago, I probably would have had it with coke.

Kentucky produces 95 percent of the world’s bourbon supply

What a surprise. Guess I’ll stick with Knob Hill for my refreshing drink of choice.

Just carry an alcohol test meter along next time visiting your local watering hole. Ask for a ‘side’ of your favorite before adding it to your mix. see: http://www.alibaba.com/showroom/alcohol-test-meter.html
just slip a slide is all you need.

Maker’s Mark just used some convoluted PR to raise their prices.

***When was the last time Mars Candy announced they were going to shave 150mg off a snickers bar or ship 8 less M&M’s per bag?***

I am still mad that Almond Joy cut back to one almond per bar about twenty years ago! They are back up to two now, I think.

“They should have asked Coca Cola Company how the New Coke experiment went.”

Maybe that was where they got their idea. It worked GREAT for Coke - got them tremendous publicity and let the public know that “they listen”. Many people think the plan was executed as intended.

I agree with this marketing trick. I think not only did they get LOTS of publicity, they also found out how much people care, pay attention, and probably upped their visibility on Facebook, Twitter, etc. as well.

Now they can raise prices, and keep their premium-osity. Watch as all the other bourbon prices rise along with Makers.

I’ve only been able to get Maker’s 46 one time but it was a very nice drink. Unfortunately Canada is a wasteland when it comes to Bourbon. I’ve never seen Blanton’s, Old Forester, Woodford or Pappy Van Winkle’s on our shelves.

The little creamery in Brenham makes the best ice cream.

Western Civilization is saved. If only sumbuddy brought back real Absinthe, I'd cut my ear off to have that!

I thought they had brought it back, there are several varieties available and sold in the US. We give bottles as conversational gifts to friends. More than one of them love to explain the history when they offer some.

Mind you, they can be up these, but you can find Pernod and many other "allegedly" original varieties.

Put you on your tail, it will.... : )
