But that those in private industry won’t.

Yep. We called them DWOP's (Days WithOut Pay). No re-compensation. I did get severance pay though when my job was completely eliminated.

I see only one good thing in this. All of those Government Affirmative action loads that Obama hired are going to be squealing like pigs.

Since there are NO cuts in Federal spending on a year to year basis, why would there be ANY reduction in the workforce of those Federally employed?

Something is being covered up here !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BTW, what is the difference between Spendaholic Obama’s “Balanced Approach” and the failed policy of “Tax and Spend?”

Hey let’s remember this sequestation plan is Obama’s> The vast majority of the fed workers who might lose a few days work are Obama voters.

You just blasted Utah as being unworthy of statehood and you expect me to feel sorry for your budgetary plight! Sorry, you look to be an ex military retiree who has been double dipping the rest of us. Just wish, at the end of the day, you don’t get paid for “not working.” Life must be tough having to live on your Navy pension and your DoD salary! It just sucks to be you!

Don’t feel like the lone ranger.

Your brothers and sisters at DHS are getting furlough days as well.

It's just poor management. It always happens with "gubmint": cut to the bone first, but don't trim any fat. The low-information citizen falls for it everytime.

I'm extremely disappointed with the 4-stars in the Pentagon. They're showing no leadership at all, steppin' to the tune of the politicians. IMHO, the Pentagon could cut the # of generals by at least half, and not miss a beat.

“Your brothers and sisters at DHS are getting furlough days as well.”

You mean “fellow hogs at the government trough” don’t you? We should never have created the DHS in the first place. They should go get a meaningful job in the private sector and quit living off their fellow citizens!

I don’t resume to speak for US Navy Vet; however, if you read his very first post it’s clear he’s not expecting anyone to feel sorry for his budgetary plight.

When Clinton “shut down the government” for a few days and blamed it on Gingrich and the GOP, salaried federal employees wound up getting that time off but then getting paid for the time later.

Moreover, this is a 2.5% cut in spending, not a government shutdown.

Good point -- to put it in perspective every employed American who hasn't yet reached $110,000 in salary this year had their personal take home pay cut by 2% when the FICA "contribution" was raised back to 6.2% from 4%.

So we've got Obama and his administration squawking about how government spending is being cut by 2.5% while all the rest of us in the entire country already had our ability to spend cut by 2% as of January 1st. Funny, nobody in the government was very concerned about our budgets getting cut by 2% were they?

And notice that nowhere in the private sector do you see people saying, sorry there will be a longer line at the checkout lines, or sorry, you won't be able to buy what you want. When every private sector employee in the country has their budget cut by 2%, we're expected to carry on as if nothing happened. But when the government's budget is cut by 2.5% they'll have to shut down all kinds of things, and make people wait in line for hours.

On other threads I have pointed out what is behind the decision to use civilian-employee furloughs to meet the required sequestration cuts:

The top brass (and the SecDef and the other DoD civilian policy makers) are being cynical: they want to maximize the number of disaffected DoD employees who will complain to their Congressmen — threaten to cut a program employing 25,000 completely and 25,000 families are calling their Congressmen to object, threaten to save the same money by furloughing 800,000 employees, and 800,000 families complain — figuring this way the cuts will be short-lived, and they won’t ever have to make any hard decisions about what can be cut, really cut, without harming force readiness.

The same thing happens in state government when there is a tax shortfall: the bureaucrats and legislators rush to propose employee furloughs, rather than making any hard decisions, and for very much the same reason.

If you took leave during the Clinton shutdown, it disappeared and never come back.

We can’t use leave because they have to pay us for leave. It doesn’t mean we can’t leave the house. But if I get furloughed I, too, will be doing household chores. Of which there are many.

private sector here...my boss just jacked up our work week hours from 35 to 40. 13.5% pay cut...without losing any actual dollars.

Then what was the purpose of even making the original post? As conservatives, we can’t lament the out of control government spending, but then cry when a department we support gets hit also. Trust me, the DoD is loaded with pork. And loaded with double dippers who roll right from active duty jobs into civilian jobs. At the personal level I’m sure its painful, but we are broke.
