After more than two decades of espousing patriotism, Rush Limbaugh reached a breaking point this week declaring, for the first time in my life, I am ashamed of my country.
Im into my 25th year, Limbaugh said on his program Thursday addressing the sequestration debate. I cant tell you the number of times this has happened. This hit me yesterday. Ive said the same things over and over for 25 years. Whether the Clinton presidency or the Obama presidency, whether its a Pelosi speakership or Tom Foley, its the same stuff. Its the same threats. Its the same arguments over and over. Nothing ever changes! We just keep spending more money.
Though Limbaugh has a history of saying audacious things on his program, the comment went viral, crashed his website and elicited outrage from his critics. Its the kind of thing Limbaugh is known for, as explained in Fred Lucass The Right Frequency: The Story of the Talk Radio Giants Who Shook Up the Political and Media Establishment.
Limbaugh does what hes always done, which is put things in real perspective even if it seems over the top, Lucas said. In this case, he was fed up and sought to put the relatively small spending adjustments in the sequestration in the context of a $16 trillion national debt
Limbaugh went on to explain, Were just not going to spend as much as was projected. Its all baseline budgeting. There is no real cut below a baseline of zero.
The Right Frequency tells the story of how Limbaughs career spawned an alternative media universe of other personalities also profiled in the book. The book explains how Limbaugh was an issue in the last presidential election and why Democrats once anointed him the leader of the Republican Party.

That reminds me of all the times that Rush bragged he slept in the WH guests of the two Bush POTUSes.
Are you on drugs?
Sign me up for "never"
They are incapable of quoting Limbaugh in context. They don't understand his cultural references or his political arguments or his humor. Worse, when they don't understand Limbaugh, they assume there is nothing to understand.
They never set foot on the arena of ideas. They don't even know it exists.
I still want to think of that as being somehow extraordinary, but it's really just the norm.
Still waitin for you to tell me: “what I don't get” instead you reduce yourself to the lowest common denominator “calling names.” This is exactly what most socialist do when they can't win an argument!
asshat!
Eight Deuce on the LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOse!

Eight Deuce on the LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOse!
I like you.
On another thread we disagreed and you politely and rationally explained your objections to those cuts to the military and even told me some things I didn’t know.
Now you are pricking the old wind bag with a pin sending the cultists into a spin. That always makes me laugh.
Too funny!
Hi Mr. Kettle. I’m Mr. Pot.
You’re black.
“Eight Deuce on the NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOse!”
I agree with you.
I’ve listened to Maha Rushie for many years.
He’s become inconsistent and undefendable.
‘Pod.
I’ll take this argument one painful little step further.
What flag do you salute, patriot?
If Obummer and his jack-boots come down your street to confiscate your guns and load you into a cattle car, they’ll be flying the Stars and Stripes. And you behind the barricades will be flying ... the same flag? How confusing.
I still feel loyalty and pledge allegiance to the Red, White and Blue ... but now there is an element of doubt.
Go away you silly person.
Seriously, isn’t there a latrine for you to clean?
“Eight Deuce on the NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOse!”
He has become too successful for OUR own good. He plays his fools for $$$.
Sadly in 2009 I got 2 years of Rush 24-7 longing for the days of 1993 and the first two years of Clinton, not for him unfortunately , but how much I enjoyed Rush in 2003 and 2004 and wanted those days to repeat again(bringing down Clinton leading to the 1994 victory) .
But as you put it very well, Rush is painful to listen to now, wrong most of the time making little sense,
like those commercials he interweaves with his talk.
“ This country is on the verge of destruction. It has thrown away the constitution. Obama hates America. We need to take action...
By the way, have you signed up for life-lock yet? Identity theft is on the rise. They have a special this month....”
AHHHH, sorry the sequester cut back my editing staff a day a week :)
The years above were 1993 and 1994 not 2003 and 2004.
Unfortunately, that is SOP for talkers these days. I read an article that discussed weaving in the commercials as part of your commentary as standard practice. I've heard other talkers do the same thing.
Radio took a step down the evolutionary ladder that day. If one is aware, one can hear all kinds of people doing it.
But from the Great One who knows everything who always is right? The seer who is never wrong?
Maybe this is part of why my tolerance for talk radio has dropped so much and I listen to music (interert) stations instead, compared to even 10 years ago.
Even if we had cuts 10 times that, our deficit balloons!
Face it folks. We're chumps. The country is gone. We are bankrupt and eating our seed corn. Our politicians have spent us into oblivion for the sake of their favored voting blocs. The only thing which can save us is radical surgery, the likes of which we have never seen.
It's doubtful we will see it until after the whole system explodes. Then we'll be forced to deal with it.
yes, Rush is always right, get down on your knees before his greatnesss
Talk radio giant Rush Limbaugh says that Sen. John McCain will score a stunning upset over Sen. Barack Obama and win the presidency on Nov. 4
[Rush] Limbaugh Predicts McCain Victory (NewsMax ^ | October 31, 2008 | David A. Patten, FR thread link )
The enthusiasm that got people out in 2010, I'm seeing at every Mitt Romney rally. Romney's drawing crowds of 20,000, 25,000, 30,000, 15,000. The enthusiasm that we all saw in 2010 is there. The same issues that existed in 2010 exist today. There hasn't been anything that's gotten better.
Rush: Everything But Polls Say Romney Landslide (Newmake Monday, 05 Nov 2012)
Don't Doubt me LOL
How about we scrap, FHA, social security, medicare, medicaid - in fact get rid of ALL social welfare programs at the fed level, EPA, Dept of Ed, Dep of Energy, ATF, TSA, FDA, FCC, DOT, Dept of Labor, stop giving money to HAMAS and the muslim brotherhood, and on and on?
While that's going on, let's take a look at the money DoD is wasting and make sure that is on the chopping block. In 2003, everyone was up in arms because there wasn't enough SAPPI plates or armored vehicles......you should see the BS (like kevlar diapers) being foisted upon the infantry types now. Or the endless "find items to spend money on because otherwise you won't get as much next year," nonsense. By all means, cut wasteful spending from DoD and make sure what we're spending the $$$ on is giving us the most bang for the buck.
As an added note, let's INCREASE the size of the military and position sizable elements all along the southern border, season well with mines and garnish with machine guns. Give the troops orders to shoot on sight any illegal handout seeking invader trying to cross. Then charge a $10,000 fine/1 year imprisonment per illegal, to any employer that knowingly hires illegal immigrants....that means you with the well manicured lawn compliments of the illegal day laborers at Home Depot; further require any employer with more than 50 employees to use e-Verify/or similar during the hiring process.
While we're at it, let's repeal the 17th Amendment and remove some of fedgov's leverage against the states.
“We can and will reverse this “

Look how far the country has fallen in just the last five years.
