WASHINGTON — After more than a century, the Census Bureau is dropping its use of the word "Negro" to describe black Americans in surveys.
Instead of the term that came into use during the Jim Crow era of racial segregation, census forms will use the more modern labels "black" or "African-American".
The change will take effect next year when the Census Bureau distributes its annual American Community Survey to more than 3.5 million U.S. households, Nicholas Jones, chief of the bureau's racial statistics branch, said in an interview.

Its actually one the options. it’s black,negro or african american.
African American doesn’t work when you’re referring to race. Too many whites from various africa now in the US. They are more african-american than blacks who were born here.

Whatever we call them they will have a way to be offended by it. What will they call the tan Hybrids?
Except for general information, why do we even need to know race? I thought the census was to determine how many people live in this country.
And I prefer my ethnic minority designation :Eastern European Caucasian and woe be the racist that calls me white ,especially a non-brat.
African American is the STUPIDIST label for the black race, what the heck do you call a black that isn’t American?

Exactly. There is no good reason for the census to include race or even sex anymore since neither of those factors have anything to do with determining population for the purposes of representation.
If anything it is just one more divisive thing used against the people as a whole, allowing politicians to scheme.
The supposedly most color blind nation on the planet has gone absolutely berserk identifying, classifying, catagorizing, triangulating, and pandering to by race, through questionaires, “civil rights” groups, hiring quotas, think tanks, scholarships, product endorsements, entertainment, and every other concievable venue into the public consciousness. We are literally drowning with the left’s race obsession in this country.
Are folks from Haiti or Jamaica African?
I’m old enough to remember when ‘spade’ was the fashionable term to use.
