In a sharply written statement, Senator Jeff Sessions of Alabama blasts President Obama for campaigning and not governing. He calls Obama's response to the sequestration "the most cynical behavior I have seen during my time in Washington."
Adds the senator, "Replacing the sequester would require the President to save $85 billion out of a $3,500 billion federal budget. One would think that any President would leap at the opportunity to make government more effective and responsive. But what does the President do instead? He says Republicans are ‘cutting vital services for children’ in order to ‘benefit the well-off and well-connected.’ This has been the strategy now for years: block any attempt to reform the government and then relentlessly attack the reformers. Does any lawmaker, reporter, or citizen believe that the only way to save taxpayer dollars is to hurt children, that every government program is effective and helpful and not one penny is wasted?"
Sessions is the top Republican on the Senate Budget Committee.
"While the White House operatives may think this attack is clever, it betrays an astonishing elitism: the federal government is perfect and requires no reform. That is why they have no plan to make our government leaner and more efficient. The President had 18 months to develop reforms to improve the government, but instead he announced furloughs of federal workers as a political cudgel. Yet, his golf weekend at the yacht club with Tiger Woods cost taxpayers over a million dollars—enough money to save 341 federal workers from furlough," Sessions writes.
"These workers know firsthand how much waste and inefficiency exists in the government. Our Budget Committee office will look for a way to solicit federal employees to send suggestions for how to save money in their departments, agencies, and divisions. What is better? To furlough someone or to empower them to make their office more efficient?
Very valid analysis, but the cost of Michelle’s separate vacation also needs to be added in.
This would be very stirring if I didn’t know that Republicans are as hostile to defense cuts/reform as the Dems are to welfare reforms/cuts. And they use the same “for the childreeen” rhetoric.

I look at the $85 billion dollars and it looks pretty small when thinking of the debt and the budget.
But then compare it to Obama’s million-dollar weekend trips. If I did the math right, if Obama quit going on 85,000 of those trips - we’d have the $85 billion.
But I imagine that there are numerous politicians and bureaucrats that are going on these million-dollar “fact-finding missions”, “conferences”, etc. all the time - so it would add up.

Exactly. Each trip The Obamas and Bidens take needs to be defined this way.

Well that would be logical- EXCEPT for the fact that our government was founding on the idea of investing in a strong National Defense- and that about ALL the Federal Government is supposed to do, provide a strong National Defense.
You may wish to familiarize yourself with the founding principals of the country in which you live.
This is after all the problem with Communist Dictators, they feed on caviar while the peasants starve.
Its when they run out of caviar that the real killings begin...

OOPPPS! Did anyone mention that furloughed union govt. workers get back pay when the continuing resolution gets passed? Oh yeah - so what that means is that they are getting free days off that they will be paid for later.
You KNOW they were extremely careful to not have any “tax payers” $$$ spent any where near Barry’s butt boy Reggie. It’s not like they don’t know that Obama being on the DL is the worst kept secret in Presidential history.
I’m guessing that whoever paid for lover boy Reggie to go to “grad school” after he left his job of “body man” for the Prezee picked up the tab. Think I’ll look it up....a wild guess, but he/his company probably got one of those zillion $$$ “green” awards like Solyndra, etc.
This crew disgusts me more every day.
So because it has a duty, it must bankrupt us with that duty? Occupying other countries for years isn’t in the Constitution.
