Oh, we can’t afford White House tours anymore? Okay, how about no golf outings either?

Heh.

Allahpundit already explained the motivations behind the White House’s announcement that they're cancelling all public tours of the president's residence until further notice; the Obama administration is putting all of their best efforts into making the sequester cuts as painful, visible, and wide-ranging as humanly possible in order to ensure that no ordinary American citizen should be able to escape their effects unscathed in some capacity --- 'cause let's be real, how else will they convince the country that we cannot turn back the tide of government, we must hike taxes, and that we need to elect more Democrats in 2014? Options for cutting the budget in ways that do not negatively impact the public at large need not apply.

Well, if we're asking Americans to do without a few of their civic/historical leisure options, wouldn’t it only be egalitarian of us to ask the president to cut down on his recreational leisure, too? We could certainly save a few dollars on law enforcement, security, and transport for those frequent golf trips the president likes to take, no? photo Screenshot2013-03-05at92127PM_zps715d15c0.pngI laughed, but come on now: The White House was practically begging for open season on their own spending habits with that strategy.

The American people don’t mind cancellation of White House tours; half are in Obama’s pocket on everything, and the other half wouldn’t want to set foot there anyway while he is the occupant in chief.

Seriously, there is no way that anyone that works for the Whitehouse is being furloughed. This is just for show. Oh the drama!

Probably cheaper and less stressful just to watch reruns of the Beverly Hillbillies .... lots of money and absolutely no class!

I have done a “white house” tour. To tell you the truth, it was nice but not what I expected, you can see more in a book. Big deal.

"To tell you the truth, it was nice but not what I expected,"

Funny, my cousin did the tour when Reagan was POTUS and said it was one of the most awesome experiences she had experienced (she was a dem at the time). I as a conservative did the tour in 97 while Clinton was POTUS and was somewhat disappointed.

I wonder if the resident makes a cultural difference in how the presentation goes...

I agree. I did it about 20 years ago...no big deal.
Now I would not lower myself to set foot in the Commie WhiteHut.

I was there during GWB. We were in DC In August for my nephews wedding, both he and his wife are staffers for two Congressmen, (republicans lol). They arranged the WH tour. I have never felt such oppressive heat and humidity in my life. They had so much planned for everyone and frankly all people wanted to do was stay in the AC, which didnt help the WH tour and the line we had to stand in. God love them, the wedding was in a historical church, WITHOUT AIR.

I think not only should his golfing be curtailed, but any non-essential travel by Obama, and ALL travel by Mrs. Obama or their children should be stopped for the duration of his presidency.

By non-essential travel - it means if he wants to give a speech on the road, too bad. Do it from the Rose Garden. In fact, in this day and age of electronic communication, he doesn’t have to leave the White House at all. It was estimated by the U.K. Mail that it costs $1.4 BILLION taxpayer dollars a year to support the Obamas, including $100,000 a year for the damn dog’s caretaker.

Lets not get ridiculous,

Our President needs golf to unwind after all his campaigning around the country on how the sequester will kill us all.

The things they decide to cut during the sequester are bogus. Neglecting service over shaving a tiny percentage. Anything to make a “cut” displayed publicly.

It’s like a doctor telling a body: “You need to lose a couple pounds!”

And the obese patient replies, “Okay, lop off my hands!”

It’s absurd.

Every agency knows there’s real whale blubber they can shed by the truckload, but it’s all a big shell game to them and the American public is the loser.
