ULTRA-FOLKSY SARAH PALIN BRINGS CPAC AUDIENCE TO ITS FEET

by Mytheos Holt

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin delivered a barn-burning, hyper-folksy speech to conservative activists Saturday, bringing the entire audience to its feet multiple times.

Palin’s speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference started in an unconventional way: After she was first introduced, the crowd was shocked to see Texas Sen. Ted Cruz walk out onstage. Cruz said he was there to introduce Palin himself ahead of his keynote speech later in the afternoon.

“The mainstream media wants us to be timid and hide in a corner. And the mainstream media is absolutely convinced that women cannot be conservatives, and if they are, they especially cannot shoot really big guns and hunt grizzly bears,” Cruz said. “That’s why Governor Sarah Palin drives the mainstream media batcrap crazy.”

Cruz directly attributed his success to Palin, a key backer of his, saying: “I would not be in the U.S. Senate today if it were not for Sarah Palin.”

When Palin herself entered, the entire crowd surged for the first of many times. Palin waved energetically as she was welcomed, then immediately thanked Cruz.

“The senator is the keynote speaker and he would lower himself to do an introduction for a hockey mom from Wasilla,” Palin said in faux-wonder. “Ted Cruz, he chews barbed wire, he spits out rust. That’s what we need.”

But Palin herself seemed to be in a chewing out mood, as well. She started off with the president’s recent attempts to restrict gun owner rights.

“That chunk of metal did the crime? That’s like saying, ‘that fork made me fat,’” Palin joked about the idea that guns are responsible for violence. “Background checks? Dandy idea, Mr. President. Should’ve started with yours.”

Palin wasn’t close to finished. She moved on to attack the calls for “rebranding” of the Republican Party.

“Let’s be clear about one thing: We’re not here to rebrand the party. We’re here to rebuild a country,” Palin said. “We’re not here to dedicate ourselves to new talking points coming from DC. We’re not here to put a fresh coat of rhetorical point on our party…We’re here to restore America, and the rest is just theatrics. The rest is sound and fury. It’s just noise. And that sums up the job President Obama does today.”

At one point, Palin reached under the podium and pulled out a Big Gulp and began drinking from it onstage. The action itself bringing large sections of the crowd to its feet.

But the bulk of Palin’s speech was devoted to blasting the Washington and GOP establishment, including a not-so-veiled jab at Republican “architect” strategist Karl Rove.

“If you don’t have a team of lobbyists in D.C. or a canceled contribution check, well, you’re not at the table. You’re on the menu,” she said. “The last thing we need is Washington, D.C. vetting our candidates…If we had one message to send to Washington, it would be this: Get over yourself. It’s not about you.”

But when Palin left the stage, for those few moments, it was all about her, leaving the audience roaring on its feet for several minutes straight.

Great speech!

She hit all the key issues of the day in her unique style. The Big Gulp was a great image, and is a wonderful example of government gone wild under the socialists/progressives in both parties.

As someone said above, the solution is Conservatism - lower taxes, less government, and more freedom. It works every time.

It sure looks like it could be! That would be great! I hope someone can get a clear closeup pic.

Yup.

When you look at what has been done to education, that is the direct result. Years ago Kruschev said ‘we won’t get you, but we’ll get your children’...and the communists kicked their academia effort into overdrive. Today we have a ‘whirled’ filled with people with no sense of history and no ability to think critically.

By design.

It’s been said repeatedly but the genpub just can’t grasp it for the reasons above. the Left uses 1984 and Huxley’s Brave New World as how to manuals. And in those books, the public were those sheep who were spoken AT. It was all they knew because that’s all there was TO KNOW.

Palin has the ability to speak plainly and despite the best efforts of the left, we are not so totally gone that we recognize the kernels of what she’s getting at. Almost but not quite totally gone. That’s a problem for the left.

I have had hundreds of fights on FR with the PDS crowd who claim we Palinistas are all idol worshiping cultists. But the bottom line is that it’s Palin’s message, not she herself that causes such strong reactions. For us it’s the reaction of identifying with a kindred soul who shares our beliefs and has the will and the megaphone to spread them. It could just as easily be Joe Jones off the street. The ideas are what matters.

But some people are very much threatened by those ideas...dangerous things that they are. So one does not have to stretch their imaginations very far to understand why the PDSers and the MSNBCs of the world share their own common cause and ‘values. It’s because they are the same people.

Bring back US production.

With this timely reminder from Sarah Palin that conservative principles are as relevant and needed as any time before, one takes heart that perhaps, America is not yet ‘lost’ to leftist politics and all the negative, destructive elements it brings with it. Ted Cruz is also inspiring and gives one a glimmer of hope for the future of the GOP. Its now clear that the Roves and Kristols are steering the Republican party into the shoals of failure as it is subsumed by liberal policies slightly altered with the GOP brand. This way lies the party’s destruction. Palin and Cruz represent the future of the GOP. If they do not - and the nitpickers and whiners will always be with us - not only the party but, ultimately, the nation and our way of life are doomed as they cannot survive the depredations of liberal policies carried to their inevitable conclusion.

"I hope you do read it because you obviously couldn't hear her through your own inner Bitching going through your Mind when she was talking. "

It may surprise you but I had high hopes for her among the other palookas during the debates. But she took off and gives just gasbag cheerleader speeches. Sorry I expected more. I will read it, however low it sets the bar.

Agreed, and it was an in-your-face slap at the mediots who pilloried Rubio for drinking water in the middle of his speech. Sarah rocks!!!

In reading your post and then your tagline I am overcome with envy at your ability to disconnect from your own reality.

You are impressive indeed.

It was ultra folksy, and there ain’t a damn thing wrong with that.

Not only is there not a damn thing wrong with it, we need more conservatives speaking out as Sarah Palin does, down to earth. It not only ticks off the leftist liberal socialists but it ticks off the GOPe as well and that's as important, maybe more so.

Thanks for the ping, KC.

I lol and lol and lol at this, especially when I saw the pic. She's wonderful. The quip about background checks also had me in stitches and was priceless. To Hell with RINO fossils!

Yes, it is. She wears it most of the time. She is an ardent supporter of Israel. She also has an Israeli/USA flag pin she wears frequently, in case people have any doubt about her opinion on Israel’s right to exist as a nation.

Mockery works. We need to all use it whenever the opportunity arises. Because lets face it. You can’t have a meaningful discussion with a leftist. GOP, Dem or Indy flavor.

I don't believe that statement “ultra folksy” has been used to describe another conservative? Have you?

I'm with ya on that bro! And notice in the fifth paragraph where the writer says:

"...the entire crowd surged for the first of many times"

I can't remember when other conservative crowds were ever reported as "surging".......

Damn "The Blaze", this was definitely another Neo-con hit piece!

2010 was the year of the Tea Party. 2013 will be the year of the Tea Party/GOPe civil war.

I like it.
