Thoughts On Rain

March 20, 2013

When torrential downpours beat on the heads of my newly planted petunias, I felt bad for them. I wanted to bring them inside to shelter them from the storm. By the time the rain stopped, their little faces were bowed to the ground from the weight of the water. They looked sad and weak. Within a few hours, however, they perked up and turned their heads skyward. By the next day, they were standing straight and strong.

What a transformation! After pounding them on the head, the rain dripped from their leaves, soaked into the soil, and came up through their stalks, giving them the strength to stand straight.

Because I prefer sunshine, I get annoyed when rain spoils my outdoor plans. I sometimes wrongly think of rain as something negative. But anyone who has experienced drought knows that rain is a blessing. It nourishes the earth for the benefit of both the just and the unjust (Matt. 5:45).

Even when the storms of life hit so hard that we nearly break from the force, the “rain” is not an enemy. Our loving God has allowed it to make us stronger. He uses the water that batters us on the outside to build us up on the inside, so we may stand straight and strong.

Lord, we know that we don’t need to fear the storms
of life. Because You are good, we can trust You
to use even our hard times to build our faith in You.
We lean on You now.
The storms that threaten to destroy us God will use to strengthen us.

Read: Matthew 5:38-48

He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. —Matthew 5:45

Good evening, Mac...*HUGS*...how did your finding and fixing of hidden things go today? Driving conditions good? No crazies?

Searching and finding, or not finding, paperwork today. I did find my Dad’s military record folder. I’ve got a lot of typing to do to get it all on the computer and safely on a CD. And I found his discharge papers...they weren’t called DD-214s back then.

The Star Spangled Banner – Verse Four
(Click)

Oh! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved home and the war's desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heav'n rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation.
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust."
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

Hi! Well my winter personality is:

~ Comfortable ~

When the weather gets cold, you love to settle in and get cozy. There's nothing better than being tucked under a warm blanket.

You can't help but be influenced by the world around you, and winter is your time to slow down and relax.

You are genuinely nice and a joy to be around. You have a natural serenity that makes others feel calm.

You are unpretentious and very real. You find it easy to connect to others just by being yourself.

~ Well With That, Greetings From Down UnDa ~

A sunny, blue sky day...need to chip a little more ice today...too much ice to try to get to the mailbox.
All melting goes to the foot of the driveway and freezes over night.

Not a very good day, sad to say - both commutes today were hellacious. In the morning there was a serious accident on my usual route in so I took an alternate - I managed to find every slowpoke on the road. This evening, I again acted as a magnet for the maladroit - one nimnil towing a car stopped short of the entrance ramp to the Capital Beltway in the middle lane of New Hampshire Avenue, a six lane divided highway, and cut in front of oncoming traffic to access the ramp.

Frustrating day at work - The software would not load Excel Spreadsheets properly. I also encountered, for the first time in my career, "very hidden worksheets" - they are impervious to being unhidden.

OY!!!

Right - I’ll hold off on those nasty critter from now on. Just wanted to share what the wild life is down here. That thing will chase you down if you’re not careful. Mostly they live out in the bush but sometimes they saunter into town. It’s a bird spider. Will drag baby chicks and other small birds down into it’s lair.
