A retired Army officer wrote to a U.S. senator Saturday about his concern that the Department of Homeland Security is preparing to arm itself against the people of the United States.

Retired Capt. Terry Michael Hestilow posted his letter to Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, on his Facebook page, noting that Homeland Security has made a number of large ammunition, weapon and light-armored vehicle purchases recently and has refused to answer questions about them.

Hestilow begins by noting the large ammunition, weapon and light armored vehicle purchases recently made by DHS, as well as that agency’s refusal to answer any questions regarding those purchases.

You think the gov is afraid that the tea party will challenge them?

I will say it here. If there is an uprising in the streets, the US government will fire upon its citizens.

One only needs to look at whose running Obama - Valery Garrett, an Iranian by birth - to see which model they are using to mold the country into becoming. Iran is an interesting place to visit, but not to live ... but if they have their way we all will ...

OK, so you tell me what you think it is if it’s not mostly .40S&W.

The upcoming war against Americans is why the Kenyan wonder boy and his ‘RAT comrades are going to “push ahead with gun control”. Sandy Hook, Aurora and Gaby have nothing to do with the ‘RATS’ people control blitz. The commie ‘RATS could care less about the “massacres”. They are just a tool to help the communists gain total control over the American people.

world’s largest standing army -— that would be the Peoples’ Liberation Army of China with nearly one million more soldiers than the US, barely squeaking into second place ahead of India.

“That will knock the wind out of most who think they will bunker down and fight to the last bullet. Remember, talk is cheap and Conspiracy Theories abound.”

About half the states have state guard units that are already in operation with the necessary logistics and command structure. They are also in active training with assorted weaponry to take out threats. It won’t be a matter of lone wolves taking on the federal government. It will be states and sheriffs mustering battalions and divisions of volunteers who will be led by commanders who have combat experience.

This is what the criminal fascist syndicate infesting Washington fears. A more likely scenario is that the fascists will unleash weaponized smallpox or swine flu to first weaken the population. Thus, it’s imperative to discover where these vaccines are stored.

Maybe they will use all the equipment to storm terrorist training centers within our borders??

Hilarious!!

Of course, the GOP's well connected wealthy insiders like George Bush might wink and nod at your comment...He even convinced those in Texas he was somehow a conservative, as he enacted DHS and put DHS into motion with his signature .....Funny stuff huh?

Not enough humor?

This Bush character allowed in more Muslims into the U.S. after 911, than the previous two decades..during war...It's a religion of religion of peace ya know? All this while tens of millions from God knows where poured into the U.S. illegally from Mehico, during war time...As the Bush family celebrated Cinco de Mayo up in the White House.

Who they really worried about Mr. Backdraft?

The administration is concerned that the citizenry will not take kindly to an Obama third term. Look for events following the 2014 midterms that will compel Obama to postpone the 2016 elections. He’s not going anywhere.

I think may reading your post will fail to understand your points - particularity that of the importance of logistics in winning wars. Most of FRs posturing about their abilities and proficiencies with small arms have no experience against heavy weapons.

Never does the thought of food, clothing and all the necessities logistically needed to sustain any form of guerrilla war cross their minds.

When items like food become scarce, they imagine they will just shoot a deer or two, failing to understand just how rapidly that resource will disappear once every one has the same idea in their area.

Just the action of going to an area where deer are, will expose them to overhead surveillance and any appropriate action ...

Gardens require open areas. How will they attend their crops unseen?

I recently retired from DHS and the agency still issues 9mm ammunition to a large number of agents and officers. Many carry the Sig Sauer 226 that uses the 9mm round. These guns are carried as either back up weapons or as a primary depending on the position occupied by the officer/ agent. Most everyone else carries the Sig Sauer 229 that uses the 40 S&W round. Before I left the agency I was a supervisor and signed for some very large amounts of ammunition that was delivered to the field office. Most of it was 40 S&W. I also signed for large amounts of 223, 9mm and shotgun ammo. I think that everyone should contact their elected representatives and demand an answer as to why so much ammunition is needed. I personally beleive it is designed to create a shortage of ammunition. Just another form of gun control from Obammie and company.

How many of them have personal firearms in their posession? How many of them have training in combat courtesy of Uncle Sam? Which side has the comparative advantage? I’ve thought of that scenario, and outside help would meet a much worse fate than the native opposition. Forget the brute force method, this isn’t germany in the 1930’s, and the opposition will be going up against a heavily armed and organized force, who don’t play by their rules. It’s all or none.

I recently retired from DHS

There are probably 5000 government employees per day retiring on government tax paid lottery style government pensions.

I think that everyone should contact their elected representatives and demand an answer as to why so much ammunition is needed.

Oh sure, I'll compose a letter right now, and send it to D.C....I'm sure they'll all be very concerned and jump right on it....gak..

That's the funniest damn thing I've heard in the last 2 hours.

There are lots and lots of well informed and passionate people on Free Republic, which is why I read it every day. And I’m as alarmed about these events as anyone. Haven’t shot a round in months since I can’t even backfill to resupply.

However, does anyone on here think that obama and napolitano are overplaying their hand just a bit? Their snatching all this stuff up? Yes. There are reports that obama is replacing command staff with people that will just follow his orders? Probably. There’s estimated to be approximately 200k armed federal agents, across the board.

But, how many of those think like the people on FR do? How many don’t like seeing what’s gong on anymore than us? How many will do what the New Orleans cops did during Katrina? walk away and take care of their families. I know quite a few and the ones that I know are not goose-stepping to the beat of the obama-napoliatano drum. How many will just poop their pants and run at the first sign of trouble? A lot, when they realize that they’re not up against some dumbass with a Jennings .380.

I’ve worked with the feds for a long time. People have this sense that they roll around America like RoboCop. I can tell you ALL, from firsthand experience that that is NOT the case. Put 12 federal agents against 12 kids vet’s from the 82nd or 101st, and it’ll be over quick.

And lets not forget about the GI’s. The ones that really know how to use MRAP’s, etc. Sure he may stack the command staff, but there’s plenty of guys in the lower ranks that will just not blindly march into Smalltown, USA and start shooting the populace. I think that many will join the populace, as that is where they come from. They haven’t been tainted by the elites.

Just me 2 cents.

4 or 5 yrs ago, two of the mid-state PA sportsmen’s ranges I went to with a friend, while I was visiting the area, had their indoor range bldgs shut down by EPA/DER/DEP/DNR due to “high lead level contamination”, and were condemned. I don’t know the current status of the 2 bldgs. He told me that they were told all outdoor ranges were going to be ‘targeted’ for complete shut down due to lead contamination, within 10yrs, or sooner, if possible.

Pretty well sums it up for me. Especially the part about shutting the agency down in its entirety. An agency that never should have been created. “Homeland” who even talks like except the Nazi’s?

The better analogy to the war you envision is the American Indian. They lost, utterly.

Yes, but it took over 200 years of fighting before they finally were defeated.

Thanks for weighing in. There has been a lot of speculation, but little hard data, on the degree to which the 1.6 billion-plus round DHS ammo buys are excessive. Can you help with the math? How many rounds does the typical DHS agent fire in a year for training and qualification? How many law enforcement agents would be using this ammo for training and qualification?
