CNN's Piers Morgan Falsely Claims Newtown Shooter Was an NRA Member
NewsBusters.org ^ | March 28, 2013 | Matt Vespa

Posted on 03/28/2013 5:34:08 PM PDT by Kaslin

Note to Piers Morgan: Journalism isn't rocket science and making a few phone calls can go a long way.

Giddy about a Newtown search warrant that showed there was an NRA certificate found in the Lanza household,  Morgan tweeted giddily:

I want to hear Wayne LaPierre explain what checks they made on Adam Lanza before sending him a @nra certificate. #Newtown — Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) March 28, 2013

Yet, this is an abject lie.

Emily Miller of the Washington Times noted today in a piece responding to Morgan’s egregious and misleading tweets that:

In the search warrants of the Lanza’s mother’s house, it showed a receipt for a shooting range along with a NRA certificates for both Adam and Nancy Lanza. These are given when a person takes a course in gun safety or training by an NRA-certified instructor.

The police also list a handbook published by the NRA. The book covers topics include safely using a pistol safely, shooting fundamentals, cleaning, storage and transportation.

[…]

The certificate was made out to Nancy Lanza, according to  LaPierre explain what checks they made on Adam Lanza before sending him a @NRA certificate. #Newtown

The NRA was forced to put out a statement clarifying for those in the media that people NRA certificates don’t indicate membership in the organization: “There is no record of a member relationship between Newtown killer Adam Lanza, nor between Nancy Lanza, A. Lanza or N. Lanza with the National Rifle Association. Reporting to the contrary is reckless, false and defamatory.”

With the latest development that the assault weapons ban amendment is ending in failure, it’s tragic to see alleged journalists like Morgan spew misinformation in order to smear an organization that is dedicated to defending civil rights, namely those protected by the Second Amendment.

What’s an NRA certificate?

If you take an NRA course, you'll probably get a diploma at the end of it. I've signed dozens and dozens, probably even hundreds of them at the ends of courses I've taught.

At the end of each class, I told my students: may you always have a gun near to hand, and may you never need it.

And Lee Harvey Oswald was a Marine and received awards for marksmanship. How does this implicate the NRA one iota?

What matter does it make if he was a NRA member? The root of this story is all about bashing the NRA. It has nothing to do with an argument for 2a rights.

When liberals have no arguments, they vilify. The NRA is their target now. Too bad that they do not understand that there are 4 million active members and many others that are just waiting for their memberships to be renewed.

I am in the latter category. I haven't been a member for two months. I will renew very soon, based on funds.

It’s a certificate for passing an NRA-approved shooting course.

Lanza and his mother were not NRA members, but even if they had been, so what? All you need to do to be a member is send in your $35 every year.

While they were not NRA members, I’d bet the mortgage payment that they were CNN subscribers. What background checks do Piers and CNN do before they allowed the Lanzas to receive CNN in their home?

I’d like Morgan and the rest of the Marxist Traitor Enemies of Freedom media to report everytime a murder is committed by:

1) A member of the Democrat Party.
2) A union member
3) A recipient of welfare, foodstamps or other public assistance.
4) A member of the 47% who pay no income taxes.

Piers Morgan is a liar. But hey! He works for CNN. The only way you can draw an audience at CNN is to lie to them. I’m an NRA member and I’ve never received a “certificate”.

I have an NRA range permit, and took a test from them, but I’m not a member.

Another point, an NRA Pistol guide was apparently found at the Lanza residence. Since the only round he fired from a pistol that day, was the one he fired into his own twisted brain, if anything we should thank the NRA.

That makes sense.

Yeah, you’re probably right, but I don’t think we need that kind of language around here.

How to become an NRA Member.
Go to NRA.COM and sign up.

Even an idiot like Piers Morgan can do it. They give you a Membership Card and a Hat, not a Machine Gun with a box of Ammo and a Map to the nearest Gun Free Zone.

I’m assuming you can go to DNC.COM and sign up to be a complete Moron like Piers.

I guess if the Kid drove a Ford to the School, everyone who owns a Ford is a potential Mass Murderer. Liberal logic at its finest.

The whole thing is absurd, if a physician had shot a bunch of people would Morgan be ranting that he was a member of the AMA? If a semi-driver deliberately ran his truck over a bunch of schoolchildren would Morgan bemoan his membership in the teamster’s union?
Morgan would do better to investigate whether Adam Lanza actually shot anyone, I for one am not convinced. I think the whole story stinks like rotten eggs and collards.

Oops there, you went a bridge too far for me. I have absolutely no doubts about the fact that Lanza was the one and only shooter.

So, can you tell me who the guy in the woods was? That is just one of the questions I have, this story was reported so many ways it just does not make sense. Plus I have no confidence in the “news” media any more, if they reported that the Sun rose in the East today I would be suspicious.
