Ebert, 70, who reviewed movies for the Chicago Sun-Times for 46 years and on TV for 31 years, and who was without question the nation’s most prominent and influential film critic, died Thursday in Chicago. He had been in poor health over the past decade, battling cancers of the thyroid and salivary gland.

That’s too bad. No one deserves cancer.

One thumb up for the amusing, witty film reviews, at least until late in his life ...

and one thumb down for his late-in-life spew of leftist hatred.

RIP.

I highly doubt he’ll be in Heaven based on his personal choices...

We have a long standing tradition. On obituary threads, unless the person was an absolute MONSTER (Like Ted Kennedy) we either say something nice, or if we cannot do that, we remain silent.

In light of that tradition,

After his sheer defamatory vileness towards Palin and the tea party movement, all I wish to say is “good riddance.”

Having just won the battle with the “relatively easy to treat” testicular cancer (took 3 chemo rounds and two months....okay aside from my hearing being messed with some), cancer is awful, and the treatment even worse.

I am lucky...we caught it early and it’s also one of the most curable even fairly late.

But, even with this cancer, there are deaths...

I don’t wish cancer on my worst enemy, and I am so sad that Ebert had to go through this nightmare multiple times in such an awful way with later stage cancer and much more difficult to treat.

It’s odd he died so quickly after the announcement, but he likely waited until it was close to the end before letting people know.

RIP Ebert....know we didn’t agree on politics, but wow, you fought through it all with such inspiration. RIP. You are free from the pain, suffering and chemo, surgery etc. now.

Only slightly off topic...These type of headlines are a pet peeve of mine. The word "dies" is a verb. A word that describes an action. Someone who is dead is not capable of action. The word "dead" is descriptive, an adjective.

"So and So, dead at 70" is the proper term.

Back on topic.

Prayers to Ebert's family. I know it was a long, tough struggle. But he is in a better place now. Probably with a very surprised look on his face.

RIP

That being said...If he liked a movie, I never went to see it. If he hated it, I was there.

He’s at peace now. I won’t miss him, but he did do a lot to get me interested in pictures when I was younger, so that’s something.

Past tense = yesterday's news.

So you hated Schindler’s List, Citizen Kane and loved Tommy Boy and Pauly Shore films?

I will NOT have ANYTHING good to say about him for Him, His “Industry” and the “Industry” that he reported on accelerated the ROT of our once-GREAT Country. He will stand before the “Great White Throne” to give an account of his life and receive JUDGEMENT!
