Is Fisker Headed for a Solyndra-Like Collapse?

By MATTHEW MOSK April 2, 2013 As a major financial deadline looms, a green car company that was approved for a $529 million loan from the U.S. Energy Department is keeping quiet about whether it could be headed towards a Solyndra-like collapse, following reports the company may be preparing for bankruptcy.

"We are not offering any official comment on the speculation around bankruptcy at this stage," Roger Ormisher, a spokesperson for the electric car company Fisker Automotive, told ABC News recently.

Ormisher was responding to questions about reports last week that Fisker had hired a prominent law firm to advise it on possible bankruptcy proceedings. The Anaheim, Calif.-based company recently disclosed that it had furloughed non-essential U.S. workers in March, a move made as the company is "in the process of identifying a strategic partner... [but] continuing to manage its day-to-day operations," Ormisher said.

Fisker Automotive entered the electric car market with hefty support from the U.S. Energy Department and backing from such celebs as Justin Bieber and Leonardo DiCaprio, but the company and its high-priced Fisker Karma have continued to skid financially.

It is a beautiful car, but price is too high for the marketplace.

Not to mention it’s got more bugs than a new release of Windows.

WHAT WENT WRONG?!?!?

THEY HARDLY SOLD ANY DAMN CARS!!!!! And pissed away hundreds of millions of dollars. Their ONLY source of batteries - and having no other supplier - tanking like Solyndra didn’t help.

This is what happens when communist central planners (Obama and crew) replace the free market. In the midst of a terrible recession they create a product only rich, corrupt Commissars can afford, then complain because the peasants aren’t buying it. The system is doomed if they prevail.

Fisker Karma earns a failing grade from Consumer Reports

It broke down on the test track. Lots of other problems too.

What’s the difference between a Fisker and an F150 pickup? The difference is that people in the market for a vehicle want the F150 and are willing to pay the asking price. Econ 101 class dismissed. Quiz on Monday.

Ah, there was no market for it? It didn’t make it through the Consumer Reports trials as I recall.

I was behind one on the way to work on morning. Great looking car, although the diamond shaped intake things might be a little overdone. Definitely wide and low and mean looking though. One thing I’ll say about the current generation of car stylists is that they’ve figured out how to make four doors look sleek.

I am not big fan of consumer reports. I have had very good luck owning cars rated poorly by CR. Part of that is I can diagnose many car problems myself. In my experience, American made cars suffer from lack of stringent inspections. The mentality is to let the car buyer find problem which is cheaper than inspecting every car thoroughly. But after those minor problems are taken care of, American cars can outlast most other cars.
