AN HONEST DOUBTER

The often heard quip, "He or she is a doubting Thomas," usually is given in a negative way...someone who can't get with the program or is not a team player. The origin of this statement goes to the passage in John's Gospel. Thomas, who somehow missed the first appearance of the resurrected Jesus to the rest of the disciples, states he will not believe until he sees and touches the Lord. He is a realist, a man who is shattered in his faith after witnessing the arrest and death of Jesus. He is honest enough to admit it, stating clearly his needs.

When we go through traumatic experiences, and are shaken to the very fiber of our being, we need special reassurance. Although Jesus says to Thomas, "Stop doubting and have faith," notice He still meets Thomas where he needs it most, and in a manner just right for us. We must be honest about our need for Him, admitting our doubts and lack of faith. Unlike pop psychology our strength does not come from within us, but from outside from the God who knows best. "Come and experience, and go forth in faith to love and serve the Lord."

Oh no....I hope the sickness didn’t get your family.

Glad to here all your snow is gone...time for green grass.

We had come a long way with snow melt. The main roads were dry, the islands all melted off. We had a huge lake at the end of our street. Alas, now the snow is back and it is not expected to get above freezing til Friday.

The sicknesses have been through the family all winter it seems. Just hoping weather has changed for the good now. We all need it.

So much for the global warming for you.... We have to hang tough, things have to get better.

GOD BLESS AND PROTECT OUR TROOPS AND OUR BELOVED NATION!

Amazing Grace
(Click)

By John Newton

Amazing grace! How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found;
Was blind, but now I see.
.
’Twas grace that taught my heart to fear, .
And grace my fears relieved;
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed!
.
Through many dangers, toils and snares,
I have already come;
’Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far,
And grace will lead me home.
.
The Lord has promised good to me,
His Word my hope secures;
He will my Shield and Portion be,
As long as life endures.
.
Yea, when this flesh and heart shall fail,
And mortal life shall cease,
I shall possess, within the veil,
A life of joy and peace.
.
The earth shall soon dissolve like snow,
The sun forbear to shine;
But God, Who called me here below,
Will be forever mine.
.
When we’ve been there ten thousand years,
Bright shining as the sun,
We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise
Than when we’d first begun.

Amazing Grace! How sweet the sound......I love this song.

Thanks, Mac.

When my Dad was in the hospital, before the move to hospice, a licensed music therapist with a harp on wheels came in and asked if we would like a couple tunes. I told her my folks used to sing in the choir and could she play a couple hymns. She played Amazing Grace and In The Garden....I completely lost it. It was beautiful.

I don't know if you've seen it on the news, but a chaplain from the Korean War will be posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor this week.

Chaplain Captain the Reverend Emil Kapaun, a Roman Catholic Priest from Pilsen, Kansas, was captured by the Chinese while serving with the 8th Cavalry Regiment at Unsan in November 1950. For the next six months, he worked tirelessly to feed his fellow prisoners, scavenging for food in nearby fields and stealing from the guards and the supply huts. In addition, he saw to their spiritual needs, helping them resist the Chinese and North Korean attempts at brainwashing the prisoners into betraying their countrymen; even defying orders and holding mass on Easter Sunday 1951.

On May 23, 1951, his body weakened by pneumonia and dysentery, Chaplain Kapaun died in the Pyoktong POW Camp. His last words were to a friend and fellow prisoner, LT Mike Dowe, "Hey, Mike, don't worry about me. I'm going to where I always wanted to go and I'll say a prayer for all of you."

Additionally, the Roman Catholic Church is currently examining the possibility of sainthood for Chaplain Kapaun.
