Background checks don’t stop criminals from getting guns. Look at the prosecution rates of NICS denials. It’s less than a thousandth of a percent of all the NICS checks.
Well I called the senator's office this afternoon to let him know he has lost the vote of this suburban Philadelphia committeewoman who worked in support of his election.
- Family transfers and some private sales (friends, neighbors, other individuals) are exempt from background checks

I don’t think Rick Santorum backed the Democrat Specter in 2010, did he? I know he turned against George Zimmermann in FL without knowing the facts though.
NRA may be nearly useless now; it helped save Reid in 2010 too.

This is a pretty watered down bill that counters most or all of the GOP objections as it looks like the NRA signed off on it(check this) .
I would have loved it if O got completely zero on this but it hasn't been working that way. New worse VAWA is signed into law after the GOP had no watered down version to use to fight it.
The GOP is passing something on these types of things.
My personal view is to save ammunition for the real battle : amnesty and path to citizenship. This is the big one. I am saving my $#%#@ for that and them on that. Give illegals the vote and they lose me completely.
The background checks ‘idea’ was just too popular in this country (>90% in PA) and I bet the NRA sees this as a way of heading off a much worse bill from reaching Os desk.

To me the Zimmerman position is typical Santorum, not because he came out for Trayvon, but because your instincts tell you that he doesn’t care, he just wanted to sound morally decisive and powerful and in this case he guessed wrong, I think that he was just guessing about which side was the best to take, and that the real importance was in sounding a particular way.
I think Specter is a connection to the Santorum behind the facade, to the original Santorum in politics, when Santorum was a pro-abortion rino, mocking Reagan supporters as right wingers and running as a “progressive conservative”

UPS or FedEx to his office? USPO mail ... registered, certified, whatever? If he got enough communications that way, it might get his attention. Calls/emails are ‘the usual’ ....
I did have a legitimate reason to send a FedEx package to my Congressman last fall and although the staff was expecting it it was held up by all the security measures it had to go through and wasn’t delivered for almost two weeks.
One thing that continues to anger me is the fact that with every passing issue it is harder and harder to contact them. No paper in the fax machine so it rings. No response to emails even though they are sent with a request to confirm receipt, busy telephone lines or “mail box full” message and now the no on-line requests unless you live in their District.
I sent John Cornyn two separate on-line requests last week. One concerned the 2nd Amendment, the other was about Amnesty. I received a response today thanking me for contacting him regarding the Federal budget - an issue I no longer even bother writing to him about.
Every time one of them votes on anything it has an effect on every individual in the U.S. This is just all pure and simple B.S.

TITLE THREE: NATIONAL COMMISSION ON MASS VIOLENCE
Summary of Title III: : This section of the bill creates a commission to study the causes of mass violence in the United States, looking at all aspects of the problem, including guns, school safety, mental health, and violent media or video games.
The Commission would consist of six experts appointed by the Senate Majority Leader and six experts appointed by the Speaker of the House. They would be required to submit an interim report in three months and a completed report in six months.

The bill explicitly bans the federal government from creating a national firearms registry, and imposes serious criminal penalties (a felony with up to 15 years in prison) on any person who misuses or illegally retains firearms records.

Are you daft? Toomey, Obama and their ilk could careless if there was a Newtown massacre 10 times a week. Newtown is just a weapon to them.
John Cornyn was the head RNSC and he supported Specter. He was heard raking a staffer over the coals when Toomey won.
The question is, now that you know Toomey is Specter is Toomey, will you support them?
