Lawyers say Arkansas to use untried execution drug

Arkansas plans to put prisoners to death with a drug that apparently hasn’t been used in a U.S. execution, and lawyers for condemned inmates warn that it could take longer for someone to die from it than from other lethal injection drugs.

Arkansas Department of Correction spokeswoman Shea Wilson told The Associated Press on Tuesday that the state plans to use phenobarbital, along with lorazepam, in lethal injections. None are currently scheduled, but Arkansas recently passed a law that will allow the state to resume executions. …

In a letter obtained by the AP, federal public defender Jennifer Horan told Democratic Gov. Mike Beebe that phenobarbital takes effect more slowly than other drugs used to execute prisoners and that it carries a “substantial risk of a lingering and inhumane death.” …

Use the same method the Euthanasia advocated recommend. Plastic bag and helium.

WTF is up with these 'lawyers'? Phenobarbital has been used in modern medicine almost 'forever'. It's an effective sedative (one of many uses) and has prolly been been prescribed millions of times in the USA alone.

So what's the big deal if a Convicted Murderer will basically be given an OD of a sedative to put him to sleep, or in a coma, in a minute or so before getting the final 'kill shot'. The maggot ain't gonna feel a friggen thing -- unlike what the DEAD victim(s) likely went through. Would these asshat 'lawyers' feel better if the scumbag was just shot in the temple with a 9mm or 45? That sure would be 'quick' and 'painless', which seems to be their argument and goal anyway.

I'd also bet there'd be a lot of volunteers to pull that trigger. Heck if they pay my travel expenses I'll do it. I'll even furnish my own ... 'equipment'.

Do we get to try it on the lawyers first?

Weren’t all drugs ‘untried drugs’ until the first time they were tried? So after the first execution it won’t be an ‘untried drug’ anymore now will it?

They don’t want to die... but they want to die quick.

Some people are never satisfied.

That reminds me of what my father used to say of someone: "He'd complain if you hanged him with a NEW rope."

This will probably result in a 13 year court battle over the claim that the FDA has not found the drug to be “safe and effective”.

From what I understand a Brit company bought the pharma firm that made the old drug and now refuses to sell it for executions.

Use an injection of Nicotine sulfide. It used to be used on animals.

If that fails there is always a lead injection into the ear. .22 or .38 works wonders if you can find a load since the Homeland Security has bought them all up.

Then there is hemp or manila rope and a air dance.
