I know where you’re coming from. If I could leave, I would. I live in rural Arizona so I know where there are a lot of good hideouts.

That means that all these businesses have to keep track of which state charges how much tax and to be sure to send them the tax money.

Silly person. These businesses must now keep track of which COUNTIES charge which sales tax rates, since the rates often vary county by county. Thanks to this bill, online retailers must be up to date on the tax codes of 9,000+ jurisdictions.

Oy.

You’re right.

It was silly of me to think it could possibly be as simple as just keeping track of the tax rates for the 46-or-so states that have sales taxes.

(Letter I just sent my Congresscritter)

Representative XXXXX,

Please do not vote for the Internet sales tax.

Obamacare is already driving small businesses out of business. The Internet is one of the few places where individual entrepreneurs can compete with the big-government/big-corporate criminal complex. Make these entrepreneurs do the bookkeeping for sales taxes in fifty states, and you will succeed in driving most of the remainder out of business.

Maybe that’s your plan. If it’s not, then voting for this tax will bring it to pass anyway.

“So where are you, that it is so much better than the USofA?”
_______________________________________________

The USA that I grew up in would still be the greatest country on Earth, but today it does not come even close to that country.
I started international living in 2000, but did not sell out and leave for good until Jan. 2005, when I moved to Slovakia.
Life there was very nice, and I made good money as a private tutor.
In 2008, after having met many Philippine girls online, I made an exploratory trip to the Visays region. It was quite nice and I started my consideration of moving.
In Jan, 2009 I made the move, and at the right time.
Slovakia had just started on the Euro dollar, and most of Europe was heading into recession.
I would, however, return if for some reason I could not stay in the Philippines.
I am now married to a Philippine lady and we have a very bright 2 year old boy, now operating his own I-Pad, as well as my desktop.
You can see where I live on www.dalaguete.gov.ph
At the bottom of the page is a Facebook link to many.
At the moment, the first link is my baby boy.
Third line down, or pic with guy in Santa hat is me.
My wife does the posting of the Facebook junk. I do not use it myself.

As for central/South America, they are in big demand.
Check out www.Internationalliving.com and www.Escapefromamerica.com. Those sites specialize in central and south America.

Not just county-by-county, but city-by-city...and taxing district-by taxing district (schools, irrigation, water, air quality, transportation, etc.). Over 9,000 all told, as you said.

If only the internet businesses had to keep track of local county sales tax percentages. I live in an unincorporated section of my county with a different sales tax percentage for unincorporated areas and the two towns 1 5 miles east of me and another 5 miles west have different tax rates and it’s that way for all counties and every incorporates town/city in the state. All bond elections statewide, countywide and city change these rates annually. The only way it could possibly work would be for a single set tax rate for internet sales.

Central and east Tennessee would be my choice, but I am a native of Tennessee.
The mountain areas of south-central and east TN are quite nice.
The southwest US is just too hot, barren, and isolated for me.
I notice that the Prepper series on TV seem to focus on those living in such desolate areas.
That is not to say that there are not some very nice high country areas.

Thanks for the reply. I know exactly what you mean by "the USA that I grew up in"...

I miss the USA I grew up in - in the 60's/70's. I feel most sad for the kids growing up today...they'll miss that whole experience.

I miss the America of the 50s, when the milkman left glass bottles of milk on our screen porch,
I miss the home delivery of laundry, groceries, and most anything else, and the Popsicle man with his push cart.
Oh yea, also the paperboy....morning and afternoon.
This was in Memphis, but still just outside of the city limits at that time.
Oh, and my parents had bought their new home for $7200.
That same house today is there, and would sell for well over $100,000+.

Sen. Thune has lost my support when he became a prostitute for the ethanol lobby. South Dakota depends on state sales tax as a major source of tax revenue hence a lot of pressure was on Thune from business interests back home, but a tax increase is a tax increase and none are needed until we cut spending.

We had all (or most) of those things, too, in the '60's.

Milk delivery, in bottles, that you had to pour the cream off of the top. We even had fresh, hot Spudnut (doughnut) delivery on Saturday mornings, from the teen boys on their bikes. Dad would leave the money (a quarter) out the night before, so he and Mom could sleep in.

I don't think we paid any tax on these items, either ;)

When was the Constitution changed to allow the Senate to pass a tax bill? I thought all tax bills had to originate in the House.
