A divided state Senate voted Tuesday to make Delaware the 11th state in the nation to allow same-sex marriage, after hearing hours of passionate testimony from supporters and opponents.
Less than an hour after the Senate's 12-9 vote, Democratic Gov. Jack Markell signed the measure into law.
"I do not intend to make any of you wait one moment longer," a smiling Markell told about 200 jubilant supporters who erupted in cheers and applause following the Senate vote.
"I am elated," said Scott Forrest, 50, of Newark, who entered into a same-sex civil union last year with his partner of almost 21 years, Kevin.
Delaware's same-sex marriage bill was introduced in the Democrat-controlled legislature barely a year after the state began recognizing same-sex civil unions. The bill won passage two weeks ago in the state House on a 23-18 vote.

In the past week we have seen Rhode Island and Delaware become fag loving states. Just added Delaware to the list of places I won’t go and spend money.

Delaware is a 60/40 Dem state on its best day for the GOP. The Dems are Obama lackies, especially Gov. Markell.
Now, of marriage is not one man and one woman, and is now based on people loving each other and what makes them happy, on what basis shall polygamy, polyandry, incest, bestiality and plural marriages be denied?
A democrat majority in both houses and the the governorship decided this question, not the people of Delaware.
Fag states can go burn in hell. Any pestilence that visits them, I wouldn’t lift a finger to help.
The people decided this question by electing them. Sad, but true.

I feel like that, too. But in my case, where the liberal part of the state did this while the sparsely populated conservative part where I live opposed it by 70%, I hope my part of the state gets exempted from eternal damnation. I really do.
Yes, to an extent, that is true.
But not one of these representatives ran on any of the things they are now voting on. Not on replacing marriage, as civil unions had just be approved one year ago.
Not on gun restrictions, of which we are in the middle of fighting here.
No on same day voting registration.
Not on making permanent four temporary taxes that were due to expire.
If they had, many of them would not have been elected last year.
This is all being pushed by Markell and his inner Dem circle, with co-ordination from Joe Biden and White House.

Joe Biden must be elated at DE, which has always done everthing he asked.
