Last week, President Obama traveled to Ohio to speak at the Ohio State University commencement. There, he trotted out his new favorite line of attack against Second Amendment advocates: He said it is unpatriotic to believe in the possibility of government tyranny. Why? According to Obama, the Founding Fathers created our government. The American dream and American government are one and the same. By definition then, believing in the possibility of government tyranny means opposing the Founding Fathers and the American dream.
Here’s how Obama expressed this nasty notion. He said that the Founders left us “the keys to a system of self-government, the tools to do big things and important things together that we could not possibly do alone … To conquer fascism and disease; to visit the Moon and Mars; to gradually secure our God-given rights for all our citizens, regardless of who they are, or what they look like, or who they love.”
Government, in Obama’s view, is the great guarantor of rights. Never mind that government — yes, government in America — has routinely stripped its citizens of rights. Never mind that state governments stripped black people of their basic personhood for decades, enshrining slavery with the help of the federal government. Never mind that for a century after slavery, state governments, with the silent assent of the federal government, enshrined Jim Crow. Never mind that the federal government stripped thousands of Japanese citizens of their rights during World War II and the unborn of their rights in 1973.
None of that matters to Obama. He said, “This country cannot accomplish great things if we pursue nothing greater than our own individual ambition.”
The Founders believed, to the contrary, that government’s job was to protect our most basic rights...

Similar to my initial thought: "How thoughtful of them to use their soft bodies to protect the light armor of the vehicle from getting scratched."
Was this written before the election in Nov. 2008?
We already put Japanese-American citizens into internment camps because they were “considered,” without trial(s), to be dangerous.
So, yes - Democrats definitely will allow, promote, and execute tyranny on U.S. soil and they have.

This speech by Obama reminds me of quote from Ender’s Exile by Orson Scott Card:
“True believers in a cause often behaved in self-defeating ways because they expected other people to see the rightness of their cause if they just stated it clearly enough. As a result, they tipped their hand in every game and couldn’t understand why everyone ganged up against them.”
And another quote about “politicians”:
“It’s so very, very hard when you have no convictions except your lust to remain in power.”

Tyranny was never better (or worse) expressed by Bill Clinton shortly after his impeachment hearings. On a speaking engagement in Buffalo (?) someone in the crowd asked him if they were going to get a tax cut because the stock market was booming and the budget was getting balanced. Slick Willy told the guy asking the question that he’d like to give a tax cut, but he didn’t think the taxpayers would spend it wisely. In short, he was telling the guy his money belonged to the government, and it/he could do with it whatever he felt like. He should have been impeached and removed as much for that remark as much as for anything else he did.

Tyranny is the opposite of liberty. For every freedom we surrender, we accept one more inch of tyranny. And we’ve given up MILES of liberty to reach our current state of public comfort and safety.
Personally, I prefer slightly crazy neighbors, with the ultimate option to shoot them if they get out of hand, than a Nanny State solution that smothers every little thing we do, say, wear, use and believe in. (e.g. “Your right to swing your fist ends at the tip of my nose.”) Just leave us ALONE and we’ll all be better off.

It has already come to a degree. There is still time to stop it, but the will seems to be lacking.
Regrettably, the Hubert Humphreys, Zell Millers and Scoop Jacksons are no longer present in the RAT Party. You could disagree with them, but still respect them and be respected by them.
Tyranny is a part of our daily lives in today’s America.

Yes. It might not happen under dear leader, but he’s putting things into position for a future dictator.
And unfortunately, talking to some Americans, quite a few of them would not only have no problem with it, but openly support it.

The American people may never be able to spell the word, but tyranny is already here.

How will we know? Will tyranny announce its arrival?
