Dan Rather: 'The Republicans Must Be Slapping High Five Behind Closed Doors' By Noel Sheppard Created 05/16/2013 - 10:14am
Dan Rather said something on MSNBC's Morning Joe Thursday that is likely giving liberal media members across the fruited plain serious heartburn.
In a discussion about the various scandals now plaguing the White House, Rather said, "The Republicans must be slapping high five behind closed doors" (video follows with transcript and commentary):
MIKA BRZEZINSKI: Dan, you have experience with stories like these. Lets just put it that way. And I just wonder in all your years how this one compares?
DAN RATHER: Well, we're in the early stages, so it's a little early to start making comparison. Those who compare it to Watergate, the Republicans are always eager to jump on almost anything and say well it's like Watergate. We're not anywhere in the same cosmos as that. Keep in mind, with Watergate, while using the Internal Revenue Service to punish one's opponents came directly from the president himself. That's a fact. Now, in this case we don't even know whether the president was aware that this was happening.
But this is advantage Republican. The Republicans must be slapping high five behind closed doors because they have three things going for them. One, their number one agenda item is to stop president Obama from accomplishing anything in his second term, and this aids that. Number two, they have their eye on the next Congressional elections in 2014, and many Republicans in Congress were getting estranged from the Tea Party, and now they have solidarity with the Tea Party moving toward that election.
And by the way, with the Benghazi thing they managed to damage Hillary Clintons chances of not only getting the presidency in '16 but also getting the nomination. So it's a trifecta for them, and no wonder theyre slapping high five behind closed doors.
DONNY DEUTSCH: Isn't there a danger for Republicans as they get drawn back into the Tea Party fervor, we know that doesn't play in general elections. So, I keep coming back to, yes, there's a football here to be played with but I think its going to be fumbled and its going to be backfire on them.
RATHER: Well, I heard you say that earlier and I agree that the Republicans can overplay this, because let's keep in mind in the 1998 Congressional election I know people dont remember - Bill Clinton was being pillared every day. Talk about scandal, this was a five-star scandal. And the Republicans did not do that well in the 1998 off-year elections.
What people want the government to do is be honest and be effective. This is the reason I think the tax story is the most important thing were dealing with. The people, they want their schools to work. They want their government to deliver value for dollar, and they have a feeling that it's not working. But President Obama must feel like he's Gulliver tied down by the Lilliputians. Every time he turns around he can't really move in any way, and it raises the question can he get anything done in this second term as president with the Republicans playing this obstructionist role.
Let's face facts: If a liberal such as Rather is willing to go on national television and talk about this being good for Republicans and bad for Obama and Clinton, these scandals are far more serious than most in the press care to admit.
What a simpleton.
Kind of like the asshats at the brady bunch after Sandy Hook were?
Maybe. But FReepers are still slapping high fives with Buckhead at your demise, Danny.
Courage,oh Danny boy...things just might get a lot worse for your philosophical soulmate at 1600.
We are told that it is wrong to attack a popular re-elected president. That it'll cause backlash.
Nixon won 49 states in 1972. Obama won 26 states in 2012. Next talking point...
Another way to look at it is the Rats are laughing their asses off at all the shills that bought their jive hook line and sinker knowing they will not be held accountable.
That’s all the left can ever think of. Here was have genuine violations of people’s rights, conspiracy and concealment on a massive scale, and the only thing they can think about is that it’s making the Republicans happy.
All it’s doing is confirming what the more conservative Republicans have been saying for years, but I don’t think any of us are happy to wake up and find that it’s confirmed that we are living in an Orwellian state where the Great Leader can do anything he wants and all’s fair if it maintains him in power.
He needs to be slapped....he obviously doesn’t give a sh*t about America...only about the Democrats.

Dan Rather in Crisis
Updated September 29, 2004
On September 8, 2004, Dan Rather cited exclusive information, including documents to justify major CBS Evening News and 60 Minutes stories alleging that George W. Bush shirked his duties when he was in the Texas Air National Guard in the 1960s and 1970s. Within a few hours of those documents being posted on CBS Newss Web site, however, typography experts voiced skepticism that the documents had actually originated with their alleged author and Bushs former commanding officer, the late Lt. Colonel Jerry Killian. As the evidence mounted, Rather stubbornly clung to the idea that his story was bulletproof, and he derided critics as partisans and Internet rumormongers. When he apologized on September 20, Rather would not concede that the documents were forgeries, only that he and CBS could no longer vouch for their authenticity./

What’s the frequency, Kenneth?
Dan Rather, in my opinion was rather good at taking untrue stories, and putting them on his NEWS at night as FACTS. He doesn’t sing bass in any of my choirs. Be Gone Mr. Dan. Your time ran out.
Rather?
What’s a Rather?

Obama won 26 states in 2012. Next talking point...

That’s 26 states out of 57.
Don’t you know... Rather is STILL having to explain what we did to him.
Assumes facts not in evidence. Tea Part backed Republicans have done very well compared to their RINO counter-parts. Not a perfect record, but far superior to GOP-e candidates.
Yep and that explanation is “fake but accurate.”
He’s a chump.
