Why We Can't Forget That Oklahoma's Senators Voted Against Sandy Relief
Yahoo News ^ | 5/21/2013 | Alexander Abad-Santos

Posted on 05/21/2013 12:45:54 PM PDT by nickcarraway

Nearly four months ago, Oklahoma Senators Tom Coburn and James Inhofe both voted against H.R.152, the Disaster Relief Appropriations Act that eventually sent $50.5 billion in relief to victims of Hurricane Sandy. And in the flurry of last night's devastation in Moore, Oklahoma. it was impossible not to forget that fact, knowing the federal government would soon rally to the cause.

Part of that reason was because of the social media aspect to the storm—like the Boston Bombings and like Hurricane Sand —information on Monday's storm was quickly dispensed through mediums like Twitter and Facebook. But with that came tweets like this, from Current TV's David Shuster (retweeted 118 times):

Praying for OK victims, hoping federal aid/help won't be delayed like #Sandy when 32 Senators, including OK's Coburn + Inhofe, opposed it. — David Shuster (@DavidShuster) May 21, 2013

This one was retweeted 252 more times:

That awkward moment when Sen. Inhofe votes against government help for Sandy victims and then Oklahoma gets hit by a tornado. — Top Conservative Cat (@TeaPartyCat) May 21, 2013

And a quick search for "Inhofe" on Twitter turns a stream into a river of people talking about Inhofe's Sandy vote:

Exactly. It’s obvious that little Alex has a problem with Americans. A real dirtbag.

Gov. Coumo has been busted for using Hurricane Sandy federal disaster aid for a pricey ad campaign...

The two OK senators were right to vote against it.

You might keep in mind that the Gov’s in the Sandy case, inflated their $10B in damages to a $60B political payoff, and OK only asks for what it needs.

Wasn't there an Arabo-Hispanic on Welcome Back, Kotter?

I am sure you all remember Shep Smith, standing on the bridge in New Orleans, his mascara running down his face as he howled that the government has to DO SOMETHING FOR THESE POOR PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!

This morning I saw him in Moore, OK, saying something to the effect of:

“I’ve never seen anything like this! Theses People are wonderful! They are taking care of each other! What a sense of Community! Such Wonderful people here on Moore!!!!!!”

And I think that the devastation in Moore was even worse than in NOLA.

Just sayin’.

Oklahoma will be all rebuilt and ready to go back to work by the time the FEMA trucks pull into Moore, Oklahoma. People in these parts aren’t asking money from the tax police.

Disaster relief from the Federal govt isn’t constitutional.

It’s a task for the state, county, city, churches, neighbors and families.

These OK Senators voted against Sandy relief because it was a bloated bill filled with pork. Also, there was no Constitutional justification for the Federal government to make such expenditures, though national sentiment in such matters may demand it.

That’s great.
There was a topic yesterday criticizing Baraq for not being on top of the OK tornado situation.

I said the best thing that could happen is for Baraq and FEMA to stay in DC on the golf course.

Maybe the OK senators couldn’t forget that Obama denied them any Federal assistance when the floods hit.

The tornado missed my house by 1 mile. I just got power back a bit ago. As far as I’m concerned we’ll rebuild by ourselves if the federal government will get out of our lives.
