YOU ARE CRAZY: New Psychiatric Guidelines Target Hoarding...and a Host of Other “Illnesses”

It’s not a stretch to suggest that Americans are over medicated. In 2011 doctors across the nation wrote an astounding four billion medical prescriptions, amounting to an average of 13 prescriptions for every man, woman and child in the United States.

In the next few weeks the American Psychiatric Associations is releasing their updated fifth version their Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5); the so-called ‘bible’ of psychiatric diagnoses. The new manual promises to take mental illness and the use of prescription drugs to a whole new level.

You may not be considered “crazy” or “mentally ill” today, but under the new guidelines experts say half of us will be diagnosed with a psychiatric condition in the future.

The odds will probably be greater than 50 percent, according to the new manual, that you’ll have a mental disorder in your lifetime.

The increasing number of disorders comes about because some “problems” that were not previously considered to be mental illness were reclassified as such by their inclusion in the DSM—and it is the DSM that functionally defines mental illness in the United States.

You see, in the DSM-5 the definitions for mental illness have been expanded to include a whole host of new symptoms and conditions.

For example, under the new guidelines if your 6 to 18 year-old child throws a temper tantrum from time to time or has a mood swing, a psychiatrist could diagnose the condition as a “Disruptive Mood Dysregulation Disorder” requiring professional treatment. Keep in mind that in psychiatry “professional treatment” almost always means prescription drugs.

Are you over the age of 55 and have “senior moments” like forgetting where you put your keys? If so, then in all likelihood you have a neurocognitive disorder.

Do you stockpile food, supplies or other items in anticipation of a disaster? If so, you may have what’s called an obsessive compulsive hoarding disorder.

“The reality shows have raised awareness, but they tend to sensationalize the patients, and they rarely talk about treatment.”

“The big change,” Dr. Saxena said, “will be an official recognition of hoarding as an important neuropsychic disorder that will increase screening, increase detection and diagnosis, and refer patients in for treatment.”

While the new hoarding guidelines don’t specifically target “preparedness,” the fact is that some ‘professionals’ have already suggested that if you have any level of anxiety about the possibility of a major catastrophe, or your motivation for preparing for unforeseen events includes a distrust of the government, then you've got psychological problems.

Now, with the DSM-5, they can officially diagnose you as crazy.

Dr. Allen Frances, the author of Saving Normal, says that the new requirements will, ”turn everyday anxiety, eccentricity, forgetting and bad eating habits into mental disorders.”

The changes being introduced by the DSM-5 are nothing short of a sweeping overhaul of our mental health care system, and they will have effects that many experts can’t even fathom. But those behind the DSM, who work very closely with government experts, know exactly what they’re doing.

Let’s connect the dots a little bit to get an idea of how this is going to have a direct impact on your life in the very near future.

Under the new regulations set forth by the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, certain groups of Americans like school children, seniors, those on government health plans, active-duty military personnel, and veterans will be required to submit to mental health screenings.

Page 1137 of the The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act provides grants for the operation of school-based health centers required to include “mental health and substance abuse disorder assessments” for children and adolescents.

On page 1191 is found a section on Mental Health Screening that refers to a program called “Healthy Aging, Living Well”. Persons ages 55-64 are being targeted for screening activities that can include “mental health/behavioral health and substance use disorders.”

Obamacare requires mental health services for many other groups.

These include Medicaid recipients, addicts, mothers with postpartum depression, the elderly, and soldiers. There’s even has a section called “Mental Health in Small Businesses” which awards grants to small businesses willing to provide workplace wellness programs that encourage “healthy lifestyles, healthy eating, increased physical activity and improved mental health.”

Are you starting to see where this is going?

You’ll be forced by your child’s school, by the government, and even your private employer to be involuntarily screened. And the psychiatrists who’ll be performing the diagnoses will be utilizing the criteria outlined in the DSM-5.

According to the afforementioned statistics, there’s a 50% chance that those being screened will be found to have some type of mental health condition.

But that’s just the beginning.

As we know, once diagnosed, failure to take the treatment (e.g. medication) prescribed could then be deemed unlawful behavior, especially in the case of children.

Not possible in America? Think again:

Earlier this year, administrators from the Berne-Knox-Westerlo school district called Albany County Child Protective Services, alleging child abuse when the Carrolls said they wanted to take Kyle off the drug.

As a result, the Carrolls are now on a statewide list of alleged child abusers, and they have been thrust into an Orwellian family court battle to clear their name and to ensure their child isn’t removed from their home. “It’s beyond the point of whether he should be on it. Now it’s the point of them telling us what we’re going to do,” said Michael Carroll. “They’re telling me how to raise my child.”

“The schools are now using child protective services to enforce their own desires and their own policies,” said David Lansner, a New York City lawyer who has seen cases similar to the Carrolls’. “The parents’ authority is being undermined when people have to do what some public official wants,” Lansner added. “This thing is so scary,”

It’s already happening, and with nearly 4 million children every year being (mis)diagnosed with ADHD, we can expect the numbers to rise significantly under the new DSM guidelines.

It’s important to understand, however, that they’re not just targeting our children. They’re coming after all of us.

The DSM-5, coupled with Obama Care legislation, will allow the government unprecedented control over lives.

One such example is the targeting of America’s gun owners. Legislation is in the works in many states, as well as the U.S. Congress, that would require mental health screenings for firearms ownership. Should these bills pass, then about half of America’s gun owners would immediately lose their right to bear arms for any manner of “disorders” that could include stress, anxiety, depressed mood or even poor eating habits!

And while gun control proponents would applaud the victory, what they fail to understand is that by green-lighting such a government intrusion, they are setting themselves up for future legislation that may restrict their own rights for activities that may include maintaining employment or caring for their children.

Once a diagnoses is made the government will then have the ability to enforce it at the barrel of a gun.

If your child is diagnosed with ADHD or separation anxiety disorder, and you refuse to feed them their prescription cocktail, then the government will step in and take your children under the guise of protecting them… from you!

Likewise, you may one day be forced to be screened by your employer and found to be mentally ill (remember, 50/50 shot!). If you refuse the professional treatment that’s recommended, you could lose your job as a result. And because the Department of Homeland Security has been busy creating a Domestic No-Work List, all prospective employers will know of your condition and your refusal to seek professional treatment.

The possibilities, now that the door has been opened, are endless.

"Do you stockpile food, supplies or other items in anticipation of a disaster? If so, you may have what’s called an obsessive compulsive hoarding disorder. "

So most of FR is crazy. So are Mormons. And many Christians. Nice.

"if you have any level of anxiety about the possibility of a major catastrophe, or your motivation for preparing for unforeseen events includes a distrust of the government, then you've got psychological problems."

This would put ALL of FR, libertarians, conservatives, even many democrats, all homeschoolers, probably everyone who has actually been through a disaster or has helped people recover from a disaster in the crazy bin.

Communist Goals (1963) Congressional Record--Appendix, pp. A34-A35 January 10, 1963

26. Present homosexuality, degeneracy and promiscuity as "normal, natural, healthy."

32. Support any socialist movement to give centralized control over any part of the culture--education, social agencies, welfare programs, mental health clinics, etc.

38. Transfer some of the powers of arrest from the police to social agencies. Treat all behavioral problems as psychiatric disorders which no one but psychiatrists can understand [or treat].

39. Dominate the psychiatric profession and use mental health laws as a means of gaining coercive control over those who oppose Communist goals.

41. Emphasize the need to raise children away from the negative influence of parents. Attribute prejudices, mental blocks and retarding of children to suppressive influence of parents.

In the Good-Old-Days, it was generally believed that the “Loss of a Spouse” was the most devastating thing that could happen to a person, and that grieving was a personal matter and could take months.

Now, in this new DSM, grieving over ONE Month is considered a mental illness.

In the Good-Old-Days, we were all instructed to have Food, Water, Batteries, Flashlights, Blankets, and a First-Aid Kit as well as a SAFE PLACE to Go and a “Plan” to prepare for a natural disaster. The relatively low fatality rate in EF5 Tornado Ravaged Moore OK attests to the wisdom of this advice.

Under the new guidelines, however, “Prepping” is now considered a Mental Disorder.

I hate these guys. I really DO.

Very sadly, this no longer surprises me.

F obama care. I will not comply. I will not file the paperwork. It's called civil disobedience.

If they come for me I will resist, meaning I won't survive the encounter, but neither will some of them.

This is all very scary, but FYI, stocking up on wood or canned goods is not the definition of hoarding re mental health. Hoarding is being unable to throw out garbage and useless items like a take out menu from a restaurant that has closed and broken hair curlers. It is a disorder and it can affect physical health when the piles of junk with dust and insects and dead rodent infestation soaked in dog urine get too big.

Leftist’s are nuts, therefore everybody is nuts in their World perspective. From their perspective it only makes sense. Their goal is POWER over the people, control. In their perspective what better means than this to control the people, to achieve that POWER they desire?

One can look at, study the Leftist, and always find projection at the base of their decisions, their plans. Just backtrace the bill, the legislation, and you will find a typical Leftist perspective behind it as motive for POWER.

The Leftist has to control, ‘cause everybody else is too stupid, and will screw everything up.

So the people in Oklahoma who were fearful of a tornado were mentally ill and needed to be put on drugs. Wonderful. Big Pharma will love this! Cha-ching, cha-ching, cha-ching!

Even before Obama care they were trying to label every sort of behavior as a mental issue or learning disability. Obama care will just make it happen more and with greater consequence.

We were all better off when only seriously mentally ill or mentally disabled people were diagnosed and treated. When it came to everyone else the theory was “takes all kinds to make the world go round” and unless there was an urgent reason to intervene people just lived and let live. Everyone has their quirks, there is no perfect in human nature.

This business, and it is a big business of diagnosing and treating people who are seen as “different” is dangerous, scary stuff. Not only will many needlessly take dangerous medications, the possibility of using that against those that don’t conform is definitely there. It is chilling that people who choose to store things for a future emergency could be labeled with a mental illness. More will follow- how about “worshipping” the Constitution, or the flag...

But sodomy is normal, right?

It was on the DSM for decades, until the board of psychiatrists that edits it accumulated a sufficient number of turd-burglars to vote homosexual behavior off the list.

If you really want to not be able to walk in your house, yeah. That many guns wouldn’t do you much good, wouldn’t be able to get to them, or having acquired one get to where you need to use it. They don’t lock up hoarders though, just lots of therapy and occasional “cleaning parties”. They aren’t generally dangerous, just hard on property values.

There has already been a thread about the new DSM-5, and I wrote a post about it. Below is that post. Note, if a person can accomplish his/her daily living, there is no diagnosis for anything and no reason for that person to go to a mental health worker unless he/she just wants to.

Don’t freak out over this exaggerated article on the new DSM-5. There are examples in the below post I wrote, about people who could not run their life and they did get a mental disorder “diagnosis” – I put a “label” on them. Your regular medical doctors cannot put a mental disorder/illness diagnosis on anyone. The only ones who can diagnosis a mental illness/disorder are psychiatrists, psychologists, and psychological examiners. If you don’t go to one of these specialists you will not have a mental disorder label of anything.

If you go to one, before you will get a mental disorder/illness “label”, you will go through some psychological tests. That was part of my practice. It took about four hours of testing and a long interview with the patient before I could make a diagnosis, if I made one. I didn’t make the diagnosis as soon as the patient finished the tests and talking with me. For a few days, I studied the results and considered the behavior of the patient in my office and the history the patient gave me. After that few days of study, I would make a diagnosis if one was warranted. Understand, if this case went to court for some reason, I had to be able to defend my diagnosis. I never made a diagnosis I couldn’t defend.

For a bit of humor: I cannot be psychologically tested because I know all the answers and proper responses. I am safe, ha ha.

Here is the post I made:

Okay, I diagnosed many hundreds of patients, likely over a thousand, and the DSMIII is in my bookcase.

As long as a person can run his/her own life, there is no reason to go to a professional counselor, or psychologist, or psychiatrist.

If a person cannot run his/her own life, counseling from one of the professionals will usually help.

Note, I didn't stick “medicine” in there. The only mental health professional who can prescribe medicine, is a psychiatrist. They normally don't counsel with the patient themselves. If there is counseling, the psychiatrist may have a professional counselor on his staff. That patient would likely get medicine plus counseling.

If your problem or problems prevent you from running your life, such as you can't go to work, you stay in bed all day, you can't think, you can't concentrate to get anything done, etc., search out a professional counselor or a psychologist - don't go to a psychiatrist if you don't want pills.

I evaluated private patients, patients referred to me by government entities, patients a psychiatrist put in a mental health hospital and needed an evaluation of that patient while they were in that hospital. Usually, the ones in the mental health hospital needed to be there.

I evaluated an ex-military man and gave a diagnosis of PTSD and I knew it was severe. A psychiatrist sent him to my office and immediately after the man left, I found out he had been discharged from the hospital - I thought he had come from the hospital and was going back there. I immediately tried to find the psychiatrist and found a psychologist friend in the same building had taken over that man's care due to the psychiatrist leaving town.

I told him it was a serious mistake to let the man leave the hospital because he was going to attack someone and that would probably be his mother. Sure enough, the next day, the man barricaded himself in the house and was holding off the police and his mother had gotten out of the house before he got to her.

I say that to show there are mentally ill people. This man could not run his life.

I evaluated a woman in a mental hospital and she needed to be there as she was a danger to herself and her children at that time. She was convinced the Mafia was after her and she had taken her small children into the woods to hide and wouldn't come out. I gave her a proper diagnosis based on her behavior and mental condition at that time.

This lady could not run her life.

Diagnosing a mental condition takes knowledge and the ability to know what psychological tests are indicating, and what an extended interview with the patient is indicating. A diagnosis doesn't happen when a patient sits down in your office. It takes extensive evaluation in all those areas to make a proper diagnosis.
