Thanks for telling me what PERS is. The post above sounded reasonable but for the fact I had no idea what was being talked about.

OK, so the budgets are screwed up, and it’s at both ends (income from timber, outgo to benefits to the masters), but politicians blaming just the one end is not uncommon. I just think the Sheriff is being petulant when he says “If you want police protection you’re going to have to pay.”

I also find it incredible there is a Sheriff’s Department that only operates M-F, 9-5. Sorry about the rape, but we’ll take a report in the morning.

“Does the article mention the root of the problem is “inviral-mental” restrictions on timber harvest as it in in Humboldt and Trinity counties in Cal?”

When the evil green eco (nomic) green terrorists took over Oregone, they began an economic war on any farmer, rancher, forester, miner and anyone else daring to make an honest living from the land.

In about two decades the eco (nomic) green terrorists have basically destroyed the economy of Oregone unless you are running some type of green scam.

I grew up in Eugene, which mill did your Grandfather own? It is time for Oregon to take back the Federal land and throw the enviro-nazis out.

Instead, the Oregon Democrats have come up with House Bill 3453, which provides for a method for “imposition of income tax assessment on residents of affected counties with maximum rate to be specified in proclamation and with approval of county governing body.”

In other words, the voters wouldn’t approve a levy, so they will force one down their throats.

Partially... it is PERS more than anything else...

The city of Grants Pass (the county seat) elected a whole slate of city councillors who dared to remove their unelected city manager (an Agenda 21, hand picked stooge) who was the darling of the public employee unions... they were recalled under the guise of refusing to support a public safety levy that was on the ballot.

This slate of councillors weren’t all of the same political philosophy... some were hard core libertarian meat and potato conservatives, some were vegetarian old school liberal tree huggers not opposed to logging.

Never mind the fact that several such balloted levies failed miserably at the polls. Never mind the fact that many of the councillors campaigned on a platform to reign in the city’s spending. Nobody can afford to publicly admit there is a problem with public employee pensions and benefits, the union goons run the city and county government, including the courts.

(If you go to the planning department to get the “uniform building code” regulations, referred to in the state law books, you are only allowed to see them, you are not allowed to have copies of them and they are not found anywhere else, including the law library, because I looked.)

Yes... you get the idea... see #27...

That is what the whole mess about the firing of the unelected city manager was about... he was working to implement a tax increase and public employee salary increases all on his own without any approval from either the elected city government or the voters.

When he was fired, he refused to leave, saying he had too much work that needed to be finished! Imagine that... I wonder how many document shredders were working late into the night...
