The U.S. Administration under President Barack Obama is on defense after media revelations of large-scale surveillance programs that tapped into ordinary U.S. citizens' use of telephones and the internet.
The director of national intelligence confirmed Thursday night that the federal government has been secretly collecting information on foreigners overseas for nearly six years from the nation’s largest Internet companies like Google, Facebook and, most recently, Apple.
Officials told the New York Times that the data was gathered as part of a program code-named Prism, which is authorized under a foreign intelligence law that was recently renewed by Congress, and that the program searches for national security threats.
Government officials also acknowledged a separate seven-year effort to sweep up records of telephone calls inside the United States.
Civil liberties advocates, libertarian conservatives and other critics, most notably some British newspapers, said the disclosures prove that the U.S. is turning into a “surveillance state.”

IMO, this is the desired government endstate of all this data collection. Nothing good can come of it.

Of course he is going to defend it. This guy pisses off millions of Armed Americans, in the most horrific ways, and he is obsessed with the idea that he is going to be assassinated. He believes Americans are terrorists, who won’t let the communists and Muslims take over peacefully.

I don’t understand why he doesn’t take his millions and go buy an island, and slip away peacefully.
He IS terrorized, by his own fears. What kind of life is that? WHY would he waste his life.
When he was first elected, people didn’t like him so much, and were worried about his socialism, but even conservatives had hope for him, that he could really rise up, like the American dream. He could have been the greatest president in the history of the world.
Instead he will live the rest of his life in fear.

When the Bush II Administration authorized warrantless wiretapping some international calls, the MSM was in an uproar about “domestic spying”. Now the real thing is right there in front of them, and suddenly it’s no biggy.

I bet not one mosque is being checked, NO, just innocent Americans. If they have been doing this for years why didn’t they know about the Tsarnaevs and the other guy they shot? Why did the FBI ask the public for help if they were checking phones and the internet? Why didn’t they know about Hassan? This is BULL! They are checking to see how many enemies obama has and what they’ve been saying about him.
What makes them believe that we think they are checking for terrorist activity when they can’t figure out where obama was on 9-11-2012 and what happened in Benghazi. WE ARE NOT STUPID!

what do i care about this piece of crap Obama? i don't care what it thinks what it feels .it and democrats have destroyed this country . i only wish i didn't have to live on this planet with them . all i want is to live my life they way i want to . i don't care what others do with their lives , i don't believe in all the fake threats the media creates. wish this huge government wold go away. with no government in the way I could live the life i want to choosing opportunities that capitalism gives and buying any of the billions of great product that the free market produces so i can survive and live how i want

Yeah but doesn’t it feel good to see 0 on the defensive after having to put up with his arrogant constitutional infringements, privacy infringements, and hypocrisy for the past 5 years. The guy has had hundreds of millions of people’s stomach in knots on an almost daily basis for 5 years. It’s nice to see him and his administration be shown for what they really are and watch them squirm for a change. He may not be impeached but he will be shown the door very quickly when it’s time to leave.
