Cardinal Dolan praises immigration bill as step forward

New York City, N.Y., Jun 10, 2013 / 02:30 pm (CNA/EWTN News).- Stressing that immigration reform is needed to “correct injustices,” Cardinal Timothy M. Dolan said that the proposed bill in the U.S. Senate makes serious progress in efforts to balance humanitarian and security concerns.

“The Senate proposal, while not perfect, goes a long way toward correcting injustices in the system,” the Archbishop of New York wrote in a June 9 column for USA Today. “Despite its shortcomings, the bill significantly improves upon the status quo and will assist millions of families.”

“We look forward to continuing to work with Congress to improve the legislation, and we applaud lawmakers of both parties who are working together to bring 11 million people out of the shadows.”

Speaking for the U.S. bishops, Cardinal Dolan wrote that immigration is “close to Catholic hearts,” the Church having helped to integrate immigrants into the American way of life for generations.

He explained that much-needed immigration reform must highlight America's “legitimate needs of security” as well as “our heritage of welcoming immigrants and the gifts they bring.”

“We bishops call for practical and humane immigration reform grounded in the Catholic experience,” he wrote.

The bill will destroy the American economy when Obamacare covers the millions of illegals who will get coverage for little to no cost. I doubt Cardinal Dolan has any concern for the Catholic taxpayer.

Gee Thanks Cardinal.

So you want to destroy America too.

Why don’t you try taking care of your flock and staying the hell out of politics.

This guy is nuts. The greater part of the illegal aliens came from Mexico, the 8th wealthiest nation on Earth. They are hardly a basket case. And none of them are helpless stateless refugees. I guess Dolan grew up at the wrong time and hasn't paid attention since he was 15 or so. US state craft has pretty much eliminated the stateless problem that used to plague the world.

Dolan probably ought to get out more often ~ see some stuff. Maybe the Pope could give him a favela in Peru or something to minister to ~ I"d like that.

“Correct injustices”? What the hell is he talking about? It’s the Mexican government that should be “correcting injustices”. Geeez. What a moron. I’ll bet Dolan think Mexico is a GREAT, GREAT country for providing us with so many freeloaders.

I do pray that God's will be done, and where ever that leaves this human trafficker so be it.

(rewriting the article for clarity)

Stressing that immigration reform is needed to “give Mexicans US citizenship” Cardinal Timothy M. Dolan said that the proposed bill in the U.S. Senate makes serious progress in efforts to balance humanitarian and security concerns by letting 11 million Mexicans become Americans, instead of having to live in their own inhumane and brutal nation.

“The Senate proposal, while not perfect, goes a long way toward correcting the injustice of making foreigners live in their own countries,” the Archbishop of New York wrote in a June 9 column for USA Today. “Despite its shortcomings, the bill significantly improves upon the status quo and will assist millions of families to get the benefits of living in a better country than Mexico.”

“We look forward to continuing to work with Congress to improve the legislation, and we applaud lawmakers of both parties who are working together to take wealth from American citizens so that they can give it to Mexicans who didn’t earn it.”

Stressing that immigration reform is needed to “correct injustices,

Injustices like 11,000,000 (at least) criminals breaking into our country and laying waste to it?

Yeah, I'd say that needs to be corrected.

Sorry Cardinal...I understand my responsibilities to help the poor but I’ll only do so when they’re in their own country.I believe it was your Boss, our Lord and Savior, who once said “render unto Caesar”....which,among other things, represents acceptance of the validity of earthly governments.

I don’t hate the cardinal but I do disagree with his position.

The Irish were hated when they came to this country back in the 1840’s.

There were riots on our streets and Catholic churches and convents were torched.

I can understand the cardinal’s position based on the history of hatred towards his church and immigrants who were members of his church in the past who came to our country legally.

There is no hatred in opposing the breaking of the law by people who have entered this country illegally.

If Dolan and the Catholic church wish for these things let them PAY for them!

The blindness and ever bleeding heart of the Catholic Church on display. Or maybe it is because the vast majority of South American illegals are Catholic. Let's see, we provide them with welfare and other benefits and maybe they will throw some money in to the plate on Sunday? Or maybe cut the Rectory grass cheap?

It just shows his prejudice. Most are “Catholic” at least in label only If these were Protestants or someone else he could give a rat’s behind

Why wasn’t the Cardinal concerned about the injustice to Sarah Murnaghan? Or the fact that every American is having every phone monitored? Or the fact that BHO hasn’t modified the HHS mandate by one syllable to accommodate religious freedom? What about the IRS scrutiny of Dr Henderschott or the Catholic League? I’ve come to the realization that the Cardinal’s concern for injustice is limited.

There are statistics indicating that the Catholics lose more than half the latinos who move here ~ legal or otherwise.

The Catholic hierarchy wants the rest of America to spend it’s money for the charity of The Church. This Catholic totally disagrees with this.

Sounds like Dolan is one of those modern
“religious leaders” who would have been helping construct the Tower of Babel if he had been alive in Old Testament times.
