Why can’t consumers block WEAs issued by the President?

In passing the WARN Act, Congress allowed participating carriers to offer subscribers the capability to block all WEAs except those issued by the President.

Carrier participation in the program is "voluntary." Yeah, right.

Anyone who thinks this code won’t also have snooping code built in is an idiot.

Yes, while the Amish shun motorized equipment, the Mennonites use it.

Both have a historical exemption from SocSec and that is the rationale for an exemption from Obamacare.

Well done!

I learned of it on FR, it’s a thread.

I termed the child the worst gene pool since the mating of John Edwards and Rielle Hunter.

I checked on Snopes regarding this, because I’m not sure if I believe it. I didn’t see anything yet.

if it happens, I’m done with AT&T for good.

I’m with CSpire down in S. MS. I plan on going with the Wal Mart economy plane when the contract ends in Feb - i don’t need all the fluff that goes with carrying the internet with me and normally use less that 100 minutes a month. Tired of the usurious waste of money.

It strikes me as being nothing so much as those speakers popping up out of the ground and in that NPR prozac voice saying “time for Tubby bye-bye, time for Tubby bye-bye.”

When The Teletubbies start looking prophetic, you know you’re in trouble.

Some of the Tracfones do have Java apps but they are not smartphones. There usually is one model in the line-up as you say which truly is a traditional talk-only phone — no text, web, or extra functions. I like the web access (for short periods - it does cost money) - but have never sent or received a personal text.

This will be a feature on *all* wireless phones. Congress passed the law in 2006. George W. Bush signed it into law.

I tried the Walmart smart phone deal (Straight Talk) ...each phone they sell, comes loaded with it’s own carrier. Mine happened to be Sprint, and the reception in my area was horrible..

I had to take it back. I did really like the idea of the price, but if I can’t connect for data/internet, then I’ll pass on the phone.

The Amber Alert System was created to alert the public about life-threatening child kidnappings. Incidents where the children are in danger of being raped, tortured and killed. Instead, it’s now being bastardized (like everything else in the Obamanation) by using it for custody dispute incidents where one family member has ‘taken off’ with one of the kids with NO THREAT of them being raped, tortured or killed. It has even been used for hoaxes perpetrated by idiots. It’s the equivalent of crying wolf too many times...and it reminds me of how idiots use dialing 9/11 to complain about not getting fries with their burger.

The end result is...now I don’t even pay attention to those “alerts”. And I suspect that most folks ignore them also. So much for “well-intentioned thinking” (See: road to Hell, paved with).

Jailbreak the phone, and delete that app. They cannot stop you.

I did the Jailbreak thing on my iPhone, and I am very happy that I did.

Actually Huxley was more prophetic as this proves in a letter he sent to Orwell in 1949:

“Within the next generation I believe that the world’s leaders will discover that infant conditioning and narco-hypnosis are more efficient, as instruments of government, than clubs and prisons, and that the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience.”

No need for Big Brother when the masses willingly accede to servitude.

Here are some examples:

So basically you can kill the stock messaging utility and use a third party package that doesn’t operate under the legal requirements the carriers do, or you can dig in deeper, depending on your degree of adventurism, and just monkey with the text message system files directly.

While some may wish to go whole hog and root (android) or jailbreak (apple) their system, you should consult a lawyer before doing so, as that activity is, under most circumstances, now considered illegal. Superficially, this is to protect the carriers from contractees randomly wandering off the plantation, and it also has a connection to DRM copyright issues. However, given the new revelations about NSA snooping and such, there is little doubt the feral gov is also trying to save it’s back end in. Just sayin ...
