NSA collected intelligence from four geostationary satellites

One is a backup. Two of the big sats could do the job, three gives you extra capabilities though...one extra has to be up in case of a failure so it can be moved into place.

With at least three big sats they can communicate line-of-sight between each other.

Their command and control links cannot be jammed. They would not use the large dish for command/control. Instead a much smaller and very precise dish with a spot beam would be used. The ground station for command/control would use a lot of power for the uplink and the receiver on the bird would be set to VERY low sensitivity. The spot beam downlink would have VERY low power as well. The only way to interfere would be to have a huge dish and a lot of power inside the small area targeted by the spot beam.(say around Ft Meade) Located at any other location there would not be enough signal coming down to pick up and from any other location you could not send up enough power to overload the command channel.

The commercial TV satellites like DISH and DirectTV use low-tech spot beams to send down the local channels. That is why it is impossible to pick up local NYC TV stations in say Los Angeles...you are outside the spot beams target area.

Walmart’s own little NSA taking photos of my mug when I buy a dozen eggs. No wonder prices have increased. We all are People of Walmart getting our faces scanned at every aisle. Sure, they really needed the road doubled in size to accommodate 15-20 employees there, uh huh. More likely to accomodate those new armoured Homeland Security trucks.

...the plant will supposedly translate intercepted communications from the NSA; the communications are then forwarded to Maryland for processing.

the plant will translate intercepted communications from Conservatives, Tea Partiers and Hockey Moms; the communications are then forwarded to Organizing For Action for processing.

There. Fixed it.

"...new details are emerging about a second massive NSA center in San Antonio, Texas. According to the Houston Chronicle, “Satellite and aerial imagery show that massive air conditioning units and backup generators have been added to the facility, which is now ringed by barbed-wire fencing."

the Texas Cryptology Center

If that is true, it is about code breaking, not phone monitoring operation. That is the stuff they were originally involved in and a legitimate government function, national defense.

You can see my previous apartment, from the 99-03 time freame in that picture. At upper left. I was on the end of the building closest to and facing te street.

The building was empty then, IIRC, Sony having taken it over from Micron, and then they left as well.

The interesection at the top of the image is Micron and Potranco

I lived in two apartments nearby on Potranco. Later had a house just off Micron.

Let’s not forget PINE GAP, in Australia that allowed ALL the communications for the 1st Gulf War to occur.
