He's An Impostor, The Navy Says About Cap'n Crunch
National Public Radio ^ | June 20, 201312:01 PM | Eyder Peralta

We don't know how, but we missed a major scandal brewing in the Navy for decades. It's important, so even if we're a little late to the story we still wanted to point it out: Cap'n Crunch is an impostor.

The Cap'n , who noticed the uniform he wears on cereal boxes had the stripes of a commander, not a captain. That is: A captain has four stripes on his sleeve, while a commander has three.

As the story spread, the Navy confirmed what you might be fearing: Cap'n Crunch is a fraud, tricking innocent children since his introduction in 1963.

The Navy (paywall):

" 'You are correct that Cap'n Crunch appears to be wearing the rank of a U.S. Navy commander,' Lt. Cmdr. Sarah Flaherty, a U.S. Navy spokeswoman, tells Foreign Policy. 'Oddly, our personnel records do not show a "Cap'n Crunch" who currently serves or has served in the Navy.' "

What's more: We put our investigative reporter hat on and went digging. We pulled up and they showed that on some occasions he sported one stripe, on others two.

Hard-core journalism from NPR covering cereal offenses.

Is there no end to these government scandals??!!

(As the Left mocks)

Commander In Crunch (CIC):

Three stripes, four stripes, five stripes, more stripes = more crunch.

just wait until cap’n crunch comes out of the closet, and the navy (under pressure from the obamites) promotes him to admiral.

I’m thrilled that the government is coming out with admissions that some of the top officials are not who they appear to be and have been fooling (some of) us for quite a few years. A truthful approach as to who these people really are is most welcome.

I certainly hope this trend continues.

Isn’t the officer in charge of a ship ALWAYS called the Captain, regardless of his rank? Was LtJG Kennedy the Captain of PT109? Was the Skipper the captain of the Minnow even though he had no rank (or was rank, depending on your POV)? So it is with Captain Crunch, commanding cereal bowls across America.

Commanders can be Captains of many vessels and are referred to as Captain.

Exactly. The term "Captain" is a title in addition to being a rank. Many smaller vessels are captained by officers of lower grade.

Captain Bligh of the Bounty held the permanent rank of Lieutenant in the Royal Navy at the time of his voyage.

“Isn’t the officer in charge of a ship ALWAYS called the Captain, regardless of his rank?”..

Ding, Ding, Ding!!!!! We have a winner. Indeed a “Captain” of a U.S. Navel vessel can be any rank of commissioned officer such as Ensign, LTJG, Lt., LT. Commander, etc..

What next? Captain Crunch got purple hearts for scratches, committed treason, defended by the msm,and is one of the most despicable individuals to ever hold office? Now they’re trying to swift boat a Navy man who has has actually served honorably.

And in case this comes up, a Lt. Commander or Lt. Colonel are always referred to as Commander or Colonel.

All ranks of Admiral are referred to as Admiral

Chief’s of all ranks called Chief except for the Master Chief. He is referred to as Master Chief.

I can’t help but think of the scene from in the movie ‘In Harm’s Way’ where the duty officer a Lieutenant JG on a destroyer Cassiday orders all boilers lit and to make flank speed as soon as possible out of Pearl Harbor rather than being a sitting duck or getting trapped by the wreckage of other stricken ships.

Lt. Cline: Captain Harding, sir, and the exec!

Commander Rafe Harding USN, Cassiday’s CO: [Standing on the bow of a pursuing motor whaleboat, frantically waving his hat up and down] Cassiday! Stop! Let us aboard!

Lt. Tom Agar: How the hell can we stop? It’ll take twenty minutes at this speed!

LTJG ‘Mac’ McConnel: [Making a decision not to stop] Does anyone on this bridge see anything back there?

Bosun’s Mate Chief Culpepper, USS Cassiday: Well, if they do, Mr. McConnell, I’ll guarantee you they won’t see nothin’ again.

Lt. Tom Agar: [Laughing] Let ‘er rip, Mac!

On that day a Lieutenant JG was the Captain of that ship and everyone on the bridge knew it.
