Today, June 25th, is DAY #12 (of 3rd week) State of Florida V. George Zimmerman case. An explosive first day of opening statements and witnesses took place yesterday.
[yesterday] saw the completion of opening statements and the launch of the States case, with four of the States witnesses being brought to the stand. In a nutshell, I thought the defense did a far superior job in cross-examination than the State did on direct, with its own witnesses, which does not bode well for the States prospects in this case. Crump’s law partner.
tku
what’s going to happen (besides nothing) to Crump for going on AC last night since he’s supposed to be sequestered? Is Parks a witness too or just Crump and if not, is he considered the same because he’s his partner?
It's true that this police dept official seems to be testifying for him.Someday when you have a few hours..and a few bucks..to spare watch "Presumed Innocent".In it,Harrison Ford,a state prosecutor,is accused of murder. In one scene he's talking with his lawyer, who wants him to refuse to testify.Ford's argument as to why he should testify is interesting to say the least.I won't tell you what the outcome of that trial was in case you wind up renting it.It's a really good film...even apart from the scene I've referred to.
So did the judge rule to allow *ALL* of the previous 911 tapes? This might be good for GZ - they should not allow the state to pick and choose but require every one of them to be played.
Bill Schaeffer says that the state foolishly sat there without an objection when West gave the example of calling the NEN about some guy walking around in the rain looking at houses, and then they foolishly object to this email entering into evidence even though it might help them.
Thank you for the updates.
it was a lame effort for the defense to show the state wanted them BECAUSE they were ignorant and uninformed.
The good news is that openings and closings do NOT win cases. Pretrial motions do.
After all this, I would like to see a PROSECUTION PAYS clause to the rules of criminal procedure. Political trials should come at a monetary cost for the state. Perhaps a trebble damages clause when a special (political) prosecutor is appointed.
>> watch “Presumed Innocent”
Presumed Innocent is fiction, not a documentary. To use it to bolster your misguided advice that Zimmerman should testify is interesting, to say the least.
She will rule on that later — maybe later today or tomorrow.
Is the ruling going to be all or none? Or will she allow cherry picked calls to be entered?
The damage is his ruined life.
The prosecution won via persecution and this “everyone is guilty of something” that infests florida state attorney offices.
After this case, prosecution reform must happen. Angela Corey’s career should be over and she should be reduced to be a law professor in an out of state school nobody ever heard of.
Thanks for that movie review. That show has been running on direct TV but I didn’t watch it, now I will.
From a juror’s point of view, it’s very frustrating to not hear from the man accused of the crime.
I wonder why the Founders wrote into our Constitution such strong protections against being compelled to testify.
Do you think they did so to protect the guilty?
Or to protect the innocent?
Jurors don’t hear from the person accused of a crime 99% of the time and yet they still reach their verdicts without frustration.
So this judge won’t allow the thank you email??? WOW....she is biased.
juries quite often return verdicts based not upon the evidence, but upon emotions, and their opinion of the litigants. witness the OJ simpson trial. there is a name for this: jury nullification. if you start off by implying that the jury is ignorant, or even stupid, you tend to create a ‘horn effect’ (opposite of halo effect) in the minds of the jury.
nothing brilliant about telling the jury that you think they’re ignorant
i agree that this is a political show trial. and i add that zimmerman is toast. the jury is gonna be thinking about riots caused by any acquittal.
who told the jury they’re ignorant? I missed that....
