I never get tired of that piece.

I LOVE to play the bass part.

He was stationed in the Aleutians, because...
You REALLY CAN see Russia from the front porch. And Stalin was in Charge of Russia.

And, interestingly enough, the only land Battle of WW2 fought on US Soil was in the Aleutians!

A very cold, remote, scary place!

I am, too! This year we actually had a fairly long spring, for which I was thankful. No rain...but cooler temps till the popped up to the 100s this week. Ugh!

Hope you get some relief before actual fall!

Kathy, you misspelled Juneuary! (the month after Mayuary)

You have to keep up with climate change.

Welcome to the Canteen, 353FMG...

Mosquitoes are HORRENDOUS this year. The minute you step outdoors, the hordes descend. Fish issues the last couple years. Both snowflakes and extra low temps still abound in the interior. I do believe the bears are still probing.

We thank you for your service to our country.

FREEDOM ISN’T FREE! _________________________________________________________________________________________

“Freedom Isn’t Free”

By Cdr. Kelly Strong USCG (ret)

I watched the flag pass by one day,
It fluttered in the breeze.
A young Marine saluted it,
And then he stood at ease.
I looked at him in uniform
So young, so tall, so proud,
With hair cut square and eyes alert
He’d stand out in any crowd.

I thought how many men like him
Had fallen through the years.
How many died on foreign soil
How many mothers’ tears?
How many pilots’ planes shot down?
How many died at sea
How many foxholes were soldiers’ graves?
No, freedom isn’t free.

Taps

I heard the sound of Taps one night,
When everything was still,
I listened to the bugler play
And felt a sudden chill.
I wondered just how many times
That Taps had meant “Amen,”
When a flag had covered a coffin.
Of a brother or a friend.

I thought of all the children,
Of the mothers and the wives,
Of fathers, sons and husbands
With interrupted lives,
I thought about a graveyard
At the bottom of the sea
Of unmarked graves in Arlington,
No, freedom isn’t free.

We had triple digits the beginning of June...then into the 80s then 70s, which was wonderful....last two days in the 60s with rain...today muggy overcast. Come Thursday...back to triple digits. Not gonna be a fun summer!

Thanks, Mac...safely home. Two accidents on the way home. Roads are dry (LOL) and the sun is still high. Someone wasn’t paying attention. Fortunately they happened before I got there, and back up was minimal.
