Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina says that he was disappointed by the Supreme Court's rulings bolstering same-sex marriage, telling Newsmax that the "federal government has the right to define marriage."
"The main thing is that something like marriage and the bedrock of society should be decided by the population through the political process, not by unelected judges," Graham told Newsmax on Wednesday immediately after the Supreme Court ruled against the federal Defense of Marriage Act and California's Proposition 8. "This is an example of where something this fundamental to our society should be left in the hands of the people through their elected representatives."
Graham said, "The federal government has the right to define marriage. The Defense of Marriage Act basically says that one state is not bound by the dictates of another, that when it comes to defining the relationship called marriage, South Carolina can do it one way, California can do it another, and, at the federal level, we would not recognize same-sex couples' benefits."

the “federal government has the right to define marriage.”
God defined marriage when He created Adam and Eve, NOT Adam and Steve!
Open primary. The SC Republican Party just withdrew from a lawsuit seeking to eliminate indies and crossovers in the primary. As long as lightweights like Grahamnesty can count on leftist votes, he’ll get the party nomination.
For once, Lindsey is right ("a clock that's not working..." etc.), but if the American people tolerate this, they deserve what they get and vice versa.
The people need to vote on this via an amendment to the constitution. Plain and simple. Put it on the ballot for 2014. that should all but assure on great turn out for our side.
Who do we all blame for LINDSEY GRAHAM? That’s easy, the voters of North Carolina, that’s who. God Almighty, how many times do I have to tell peopler; ELECTIONS HAVE CONSEQUENCES. But it appears that no body wants to listen.
I am for dropping all deductions and credits in the tax code. Flat tax of a set percentage period. No mortgage write-offs, no expense deductions, no child credits, nothing. Tax everyone who draws a paycheck at a rate between 10-20% and deduct it from the checks and cut us a receipt showing our share of the government yoke and move on.
This won’t be allowed since it would basically destroy the tax preparer industry and gut the IRS.
We have allowed evil to corrupt our language in order to deceive the majority of stupid people breathing air.
The federal government does not have “rights”, it has “enumerated powers”, and it’s telling that he doesn’t know the difference.
Why it seems there are as many Lot’s wives as there are perverts. God did not make a distinction between the two.
The ruling was challenged by people in the state of California. The US Supremes kicked it back to Caliphony and said "this is not my job".
Now, if a state amendment is "unconstitutional" then how can any amendments to the state constitution be "constitutional"? If the Caliphony Supremes thought it may not be federally constitutional, then the men in black dresses in DC did not do their job to determine whether it was constitutional.
If a gay man feels his rights are violated by the laws of the state, he "has ground" to challenge it all the way to the Supreme Court. Why doesn't everyone in the state?
Oh wait, gays get superior rights. Same as abortionists.
Activist judges suck socialist %^$#.
Maybe the 70% black voters who supported this amendment in California should take it back to the US Supremes since their vote was invalidated by the California Supremes for no other reason than sodomite love.
Fat lot of good that would do. California voters passed an amendment and the activist judges in California said it was a unconstititional amendment. Figure that one out.
We are living in a state of judicial tyranny, not a democracy. Your vote does not count. Ask those who live under the selected not elected socialist swine named Al Franken.
He’s lost his mind.
So all marriage certificates are going to be issued by the feds now instead of the states? They’ve nationalized everything else, why not marriage also? SMMFH!!!!!
Art 1 Sec 8 says nothing about the Federal government being able to define “marriage”.
However, Amd 1 does say something about “Congress shall make no law” in regards to freedom of religion though...
Maybe we should have stuck with that instead of handing the Gay Lobby a “win” on a silver platter.
“Third, the headline is very misleading: what sissy boi Lindsay said is not as bad as the header here.”
Really?
This is direct quote from Graham “”The federal government has the right to define marriage...”
Direct quote.
So how pray tell is a direct quote misleading?
At least people are showing their true colors lately.
That's correct. Rights are extant. They existed before man. We have a right to speak, to associate, and to defend ourselves.
This flimsy use of the word "rights" is becoming tiresome. They truly have no idea what it means and are bastardizing the very root and spirit of the word.
The only time Grahamnesty takes a vocal stand against Dems is when the battle is already lost.
How's your constitutional amendment ending birthright for illegals going Grahmnesty?
So then who gives a ,,, what you think y?
On any real issues unresolved like amnesty he works with them(Dems) to get them victory,
I hate this deceitful sc...bag.
God help us if he is right. They will define it however the biggest money contributors to the Democrat Party want it defined.
Hmmmmmmmmmm.
Guess Lindsey likes to “play the field”.
