The Law Means Nothing to These People
American Thinker ^ | 7-11-2013 | Jon N. Hall

President Obama has just nullified, all by his lonesome, a provision in a duly-enacted law: the employer mandate in ObamaCare. It's one thing to give priority to enforcing one law over another, such as stressing interdiction of cocaine over marijuana. But to just cancel a law is quite another matter. In "Obama's never-mind presidency" on July 5 in the Washington Post, George Will writes:

Although the Constitution has no Article VIII, the administration acts as though there is one that reads: "Notwithstanding all that stuff in other articles about how laws are made, if a president finds a law politically inconvenient, he can simply post on the White House Web site a notice saying: Never mind."

Never mind that the law stipulates 2014 as the year when employers with 50 full-time workers are mandated to offer them health-care coverage or pay fines. Instead, 2015 will be the year. Unless Democrats see a presidential election coming.

------

So our experience with health-care reform bleeds over into immigration reform. If our imperial (and imperious) president can vacate or delay parts of ObamaCare he doesn't like or that are politically inconvenient, then he can do the same with immigration reform, such as enforcing border security. Once bitten, twice shy.

It makes no sense to get all worked up about passing a new law when the laws already on the books are being nullified before they even take effect or were never enforced in the first place. If you'll recall, Congress passed a law back in 1986 that was supposed to seal the border and stop invasions by illegal aliens. It doesn't seem to have worked. So there's no urgent need to enact yet another law the feds will just ignore.

Conservatives won't fight back, and the liberals know it.

And no, whining about the liberals on talk radio or internet forums isn't fighting.

to eat all the excess these plants produce

On the contrary, it means a lot to them if it can be used to get their opposition out of the way to do what they want.

Based on recent SCOTUS verdicts it doesn’t matter. Is an employer with more than 50 employee going to sue based on the fact that they really want to pay more taxes? They will say they will have no standing because they haven’t been harmed. The house could take it up and say you have to enforce the laws we create but then it would like Republicans are fighting for Obamacare. They thought this out and it’s called checkmate.

This is why the law means nothing to me. Our constitution is clear: The law applies equally to everyone.

This is what really puzzled me about this when I first heard it. Once Obamacare became law, it was, by definition, the law. So I didn’t see this as Obama changing the obamacare mandate. I saw this as the president changing “a law”. How can he do that all by himself?

Clair wolfe described the cunundrum we face in the late 20th century:

“America is at that awkward stage: It’s too late to work within the system, and too late to shoot the ba$tard$.”

And don’t kid yourself. Those are the only “categories”. Our government is like a two year old, always pushing limits to see what they can get away with. It is what Clinton did when he was impeached but dared them to kick him out of office. In a kinder, gentler time where we had leaders with integrity, they would spare us the whole process, cough, Nixon, cough...

But it has only gotten worse and will only get worse until the whole thing implodes, which I firmly believe will happen within Obama’s second term.

This delay by the president is the functional equivalent of a line item veto. Had he chosen to veto a Congressionally authorized spending item, the RINOs would be up in arms. On this topic, not even a peep.

California Senate Bill Allows Non-Citizens to be Poll Workers

Does anyone seriously think there is still hope for the USA?

BlueYonder ~:" This delay by the president is the functional equivalent of a line item veto..." Quite true ! Selective enforcement of any law is , at least immoral , and at worst, illegal .
But he isn't the only one in this administration who doesn't believe in the "Rule of Law" ; it seems quite prevelent .

Au contraire.

The law means EVERYTHING to these people because, “la loi c’est Obama.”

Obama’s keeps the part of the law he wants and throws the rest away.

If the Comprehensive Immigration Rip-off had been passed he would have honored the part about amnesty - and thrown the rest of it away. The GOP is becoming the part of the gullible and easily fooled.

That wasn’t the quote that I remembered so I sneaked a peek....

“America is at that awkward stage; it’s too late to work within the system, but too early to shoot the bastards.” - Claire Wolfe

http://gos.sbc.edu/w/wolfe.html (well worth the read IMO)

Whether or not “it’s time” is a consideration of provocation. Personally I do not believe that there is sufficient provocation yet to pull the trigger. But we’re close. We stand on the precipice and prudence dictates that we be prepared - and resolute.

He gets away with it, because he is allowed to get away with it.

Well, I would never say, on the internet, that we’ve hit the shooting stage.

For obvious reasons...

She said we are at that “awkward” stage. Has she since said that we progressed into the next stage?
