Average gas price in Connecticut tops $4

It seems as though the temperatures aren't the only numbers getting higher and higher. Gas prices in Connecticut have topped $4 a gallon, making them the second-highest in the continental U.S. and the highest in New England.

According to AAA's Daily Fuel Gage Report, the average prices for a gallon of regular gas reached $4.01, which is a 20-cent increase in the past week.

AAA officials said the high gas prices are because of the rise in demand and not enough supply. The increased oil prices and production issues at several refineries also attribute to the high gas prices.

Many residents are unhappy about the recent jump in prices. Madge, an East Hartford resident, went to the south on vacation and came back to the high gas prices.

"The gas prices are way different than up here in Connecticut," said Madge. "It's much cheaper when you hit New Jersey going down to Florida, the Carolinas, much cheaper gas. The taxes in Connecticut are way too high."

A recent website set up by Senate Republicans called "Ax the Gas Tax" has more than 17,000 signatures from people who want to get rid of the new 4-cent gas tax that went into effect this earlier this month.

Thanks Mallof for raising the gas tax. MA and RI thank you too for driving consumers to their sates to get gas, do shopping, etc.

The state with the next highest gas prices in the continental US is CA, at $4.02/gal.

Well!since I have to pay so much more to drive to work,I’ll just have to cutback on spending.Something I really don’t want to do because its going to hurt the small businesses in the area.

But if that’s what it takes to save some money and keep it from going to the governor,So be it.

Aye, the Mass border beckons.

There are huge gas stations with giant signs within 50 feet of Connecticut.

Year after year after year the people of CT re-elect Dems to the state legislature, where they hold a huge majority. They pass a state gas increase and the Dem Governor, Malloy, signs it.

Occasionally you get a RINO governor, who is virtually held hostage by the Dem super majority to override any veto.

Even gas stations near the CT border not near a highway always seem to have a few extra fuel islands compared to stations in CT a few miles away. Wonder why? I’m sure it’s not the .40/gal price difference.

They need to do like Texas.

Instead of raising the gas tax, build toll roads.

Gas prices in Connecticut have topped $4 a gallon, making them the second-highest in the continental U.S. and the highest in New England outside California.

Don't try to sugarcoat it by limiting the geography.

“Instead of raising the gas tax, build toll roads.”

Years ago CT removed the tolls from I-95 abd increased their gas tax. Pretty stupid, considering it is small enough to cross without fueling; they basically screwed their own people. Here in NJ, we have toll roads and lower gas prices than the surrounding states (PA, NY, CT).

“AAA officials said the high gas prices are because of the rise in demand and not enough supply.”

High gas prices are because of the same thing as the rise in grocery prices - INFLATION. Why is AAA shilling for Obama?

“Well! Since I have to pay so much more to drive to work,I’ll just have to cutback on spending.Something I really don’t want to do because its going to hurt the small businesses in the area.”

I’ve been doing that to deal with debt; it is amazing how much money I save eating breakfast before work, bringing lunch with me, and basically avoiding spending as much as I can. As a recovering fast-food junkie, I probably single-handedly drove up the minority unemployment 1% here in NJ.

Aye, the Mass border beckons.

It's a sad state of affairs when Massachusetts or [gasp] New York State are relative bargains.

Gas might go pretty high in the fall after they hold prices down this summer in efforts to entice tourists. WTI oil, both current and future, is over $108 a barrel.

I worked a contract job in Danbury, CT from June 2011 to April 2012. The pay was very good (it had to be, with the cost of living up there), but I’m glad I’m not there now.

And I’ll bet they love it that way. This couldn’t happen to a more deserving bunch.
