Time Warner Cable's blackout of CBS continued Saturday, and neither side indicated a resolution of their dispute over fees is imminent.

Time Warner dropped CBS Friday in New York, Los Angeles, Dallas and several other cities, leaving three million customers without the network's programs. The issue is fees that the cable company pays CBS to air its programs.

Each has accused the other of making unreasonable demands ...

The CBS stations that went dark are WCBS and WLNY in New York; KCBS and KCAL in Los Angeles; KTVT and KTXA in Dallas; WBZ and WSBK in Boston; KDKA, WPCW-CW in Pittsburgh; KCNC in Denver; WKBD-CW in Detroit and WBBM in Chicago.

About 2.5 million Time Warner Cable customers lost access to Showtime ...

A pox on both their houses. However, it was interesting to see:

Time Warner cut off the CBS shows as well as cable networks Showtime, TMC, Flix and Smithsonian.

Who knew all those cable channels belonged to CBS? (Actually Smithsonian is a joint venture).

The dispute may bring some government action.

That right there is what's wrong in this country.

CBS sends its signal out over the airwaves for free to anyone with an antenna, about 85 percent of its viewers watch TV through a pay TV provider.

A more interesting statistic is what fraction of watchers COULD watch via antenna if they care to?

There should be no fee to carry a broadcasters signal on a cable system.

They are doing the broadcaster a huge favor by including their signal on the system.

In fact, there is more reason for the broadcaster to pay a small fee to the cable company for carrying their signal than there is for the cable system to pay the broadcaster.

The only reason I noticed this happening was due to TW sending me an email notifying me of what had transpired.

I’m all for TW prevailing over CBS, but I really don’t care one way or another as long as my rates don’t go up. If I see them go up after a capitulation from TW, I will dump my cable TV immediately and just watch movies from my own library.

Yes, and when the news was 90% local stuff and fit into 15-minute segments a few times each day. Literally no time for "spin".

cable subscribers are supporting channels like Current-TV, Bridges-TV and other crap.

Plus, if you don’t watch sports you are being ripped off, 40% of the money paid to channels are sports channels

The only thing on CBS I was interested in watching was the golf game. I just watched it on my computer using live stream. Otherwise there is nothing on CBS I care to watch.
