A majority of American parents with grade-school children say they would feel safer if their child attended a school with an armed guard, according to a new Rasmussen poll.
Sixty-two percent of those surveyed said theyd feel safer if their child attended such a school, against only 24 percent who say theyd feel safer if their child went to a school where no adult was allowed to own a gun. Fifteen percent werent sure.
The poll comes a week after Arkansass attorney general, Democrat Dustin McDaniel, said school districts in his state cant employ teachers and staff as armed guards on campus because a state board that licenses private security agencies didnt have the authority to allow them to do so. He did, however, say his ruling wouldnt stop schools from contracting with private companies or using law enforcement as school-resource officers.
” Young, mentally disturbed...” THAT is the problem no one wants to face. These mentally disturbed people are KNOWN to those around them and, in the case of the latest school shooting PROTECTED by his family. We are so worried about the rights of the mentally ill that we let them destroy our society with their sickness.
I’m sorry, if my kid was batsh*t crazy I wouldn’t impose him on normal society, insisting that he ‘interact’ like normal children. We need more facilities for schizophrenic individuals to be kept OUT of our streets and schools. Let people who think they can ‘fix’ them form a guarded community and experiment there. I’m damned tired of hearing ‘mental issues’ with ‘problems’ as an explanation why innocent people are dead.
I hope it works and he or she doesn’t become the psycho’s first victim.
If they are not going to let me have one myself, then the armed guards idea isn’t a bad one. As it is, we have two SROs on the campus, which in my opinion is inadequate but better than nothing.
We have two SRO’s on staff at all times not to mention I teach in rural S. Georgia. I *promise* you at any given time there is a student/teacher/para/coach with a gun on campus in a vehicle.
We routinely took guns to school when I was younger - someone had a dove shoot that afternoon or we were going hunting.
I am of mixed emotions about letting teachers carry; I would not myself although I do carry outside of school.
That said, it is only a matter of time before the rabid, anti-school, “don’t post to me even though I insult you”, homeschooling is perfect and flawless crowd comes on board to ruin any positive discussion on the thread.
Thanks neverdem.
don't our kids have enough to worry about?...
if our schools aren't safe from murdering imbeciles....btw, they ARE safe......then CLOSE THE DANG THINGS DOWN....keep your kids at home and home school....
we don't need armed cops everywhere...
next, we'll have them in our churches....
we're becoming more and more a police state.....
I want FATHERS to be in school...wandering around the school, making a presence...I trust fathers more than I would having armed cops.....
After the Paducah shooting that several colleagues and I were asked to consider carrying in school and watching the doors. Each of us had CCW permits and military training.
We met with the Superintendent and the Asst Super. to discuss responsibilities and liability insurance. Fortunately we never had to take that step and we were all relieved.
“I have no problem with having personnel with CCWs carry during school. The only people I personally know that have a problem with that idea do not have children in school.”
I agree, school personnel with CCWs would be my first choice. I now have grandchildren in schools. No one is safe in a gun free zone.
All the more reason for the armed citizen.
Speaking of schools and guns, anybody know of lawsuits filed yet in sandy hook? One was filed to get it on the web but then withdrawn.... any others or is this just too soon for parents to sue .. especially since gun control is more important to them....
I think they want a class action suit against the school district or gun manufacturer or something. I don’t think they can get enough families on board (yet).
How do anti-gunners blame the school when it was a gun free zone, which is what they want-right?
IOW - they feel safer when only the bad guys will have guns...Too bad they aren't astute enough to realize that a policy only applies to the good guys.
How dare you open your mouth, you overpaid and underworked big government union stooge! /sarc.
We’ve had a SRO at the schools in our county since I’ve taught there - over 15 years.
However, I like the idea of CCW for teachers who WANT to be able to do that. Personally, I’d be pretty useless with a gun, but there are several people in our school who have military or police service.
