Dem Senator: I'm Embarrassed to Go to Europe Because Some Americans Lack Health Insurance
The Weekly Standard ^ | August 17, 2013 | Daniel Halper

Democratic senator Mary Landrieu says she's embarrassed to go to places in Europe like France and Spain because some Americans do not have health insurance. Landrieu, who is up for reelection in 2014, represents the state of Louisiana.

“People are scared when they’re sick, and they’re much stronger when they’re well,” Landrieu said at a Friday lunch, according to the American Press. “It’s embarrassing to me to go to places like France and Spain ... and their workers all manage to have health insurance that can’t be taken away.”

The report adds:

Landrieu said Louisiana has “more working people that are poor” than any other state. Of the 2 million people who file taxes in the state, she said, 70 percent have incomes lower than $50,000 a year. She said another 12 percent have an- nual incomes between $50,000 and $75,000.

“When people ask me what kind of health care people need, I think they need something they can afford,” Landrieu said.

Landrieu has doubled down on her support for Obamacare.

Republican governor Bobby Jindal, also of Louisiana is already blasting Landrieu for her comments. On Twitter, Jindal writes:

Gov. Bobby Jindal ✔ @BobbyJindal

Whoa! @marylandrieu agrees with Obama. She's "embarrassed" that America doesn't have socialized medicine like Europe! http://tinyurl.com/n6yohgh

Those thousands of American soldiers buried in Normandy
and other parts of France and Europe each had a $10K life
insurance policy but no health care insurance. I don’t give
two dead flies what Euros think of us Yanks. But like all
FReepers I am embarrassed about the libturds who run our
nation today.

Another grandstander trying to get the attention of the king. What an idiotic thing for her to say...

They worked on him - for what seemed like eternity - right there on the sidewalk. By the time we left, at least forty five minutes later, they still hadn't put the guy into the ambulance.

This is not uncommon in emergency field stabilization work. In April I was right next to a scene where a truck hit a motorcyclist at a rural intersection. At least five ambulances (from different jurisdictions) showed up and the paramedics worked on the guy for over an hour before leaving for a hospital.

I was just telling my mom how fortunate we are in the U.S. of A. and that Obamacare hasn’t taken its full toll yet.

She was in the ER and had a full suite of tests done, some twice. A week later she had some procedure done within 24 hours of the doctor wanting it. (24 hours pre-procedure food thing was the delay). She did have to travel an hour to a different clinic as the one nearby wasn’t available for a few days.

She will hopefully have another procedure done next week if the doctors think it will work. I can’t imagine waiting months like they do in England, Canada, etc. Of course my mom probably wouldn’t even be looked at over there. Or here if Obamacare kicks in fully. She’s 95.

People in LA do not know that Landrieu is a liberal, and she has lots of support among Republicans too.

If I ever lose a family member to Obamacare....I’d do something that can’t be mentioned on the internet.

Over the past year in Germany....a review of funding and quantity of hospitals has concluded. Basically...the system relied upon the state governments (all sixteen)...to fund the infrastructure of hospitals around the country for the past fifty-odd years. If you needed to repave your parking lot...you dipped into state money. If you needed a new boiler, you dipped into state money.

Folks really didn’t grasp that they were paying a monthly portion of their check for medical care, and a regular monthly tax portion for the medical infrastructure.

Well, the states have begged off and think it’s too expensive to continue this mess. So it’s up to hospitals to make enough...to cover infrastructure.

Naturally, they’ve all come to agree...there are way too many hospitals throughout the country. So the general plan right now...over the next five to eight years...is to take down around thirty to forty percent of all hospitals. The logic in doing this....pick out more remote areas, and increase the time of your pick-up to the local hospital from 15 minutes....to maybe 45 minutes.

So you can take a guess how people are freaking out in Germany when they learn their hospital got on the closure list. They aren’t happy, but they really can’t afford the real cost of medical care.

She’s embarrassed to go to France because not all Americans have health insurance? I’m not understanding her problem. I mean do French people care? It doesn’t make any sense.

Mary, they have better wine, dress better and are skinnier.

The free medical care welfare cases get in this country is superior to the socialist health care of european countries.
