Climate Panel Cites Near Certainty on Warming
New York Times ^ | August 19, 2013 | JUSTIN GILLIS AND GRANT JUNKIE

Posted on 08/20/2013 9:04:17 PM PDT by Eric Blair 2084

international panel of scientists has found with near certainty that human activity is the cause of most of the temperature increases of recent decades, and warns that sea levels could conceivably rise by more than three feet by the end of the century if emissions continue at a runaway pace.

SNIP

The draft comes from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, a body of several hundred scientists that won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007, along with Al Gore. Its summaries, published every five or six years, are considered the definitive assessment of the risks of climate change, and they influence the actions of governments around the world. Hundreds of billions of dollars are being spent on efforts to reduce greenhouse emissions, for instance, largely on the basis of the group’s findings.

In spite of all the evidence, which shows cooling. But this is science — we can’t let it be influenced by evidence!

If you read the whole article there was one part that gave me some memories. I do remember massive piles of snow as a kid in NJ. Haven’t had the same weather. I do not miss shoveling that stuff as an 11-year-old. :-)

As far as the heat in Texas. As a cowboy fan I can still distinctly remember watching preseason games with Roger Staubach and Tony Dorsett playing in Texas Stadium and it was hot then too.

Lots of weasel-words in there to give themselves an out when their fact-free predictions don't happen.

"...near certainty..." But not certain...

"...cause of most of..." Is most vague enough?

"...could conceivably rise..." Or could conceivably fall.

"...if emissions continue at a runaway pace..." What is a runaway pace, and are we there now?

Still not 100% nor (not having read the article guessing) even near it.

Close only counts, as they say, in horse shoes and hand grenades, so, still
no sale.

“Isn’t this the group whose emails disclosed that they were fudging the data?”

Yes, from the CRU in the UK. IRC, Michael Mann was one of the instigators. When it was found to be falsified data, Mann was strongly discredited. The term was then declared, “The hockey stick has been broken”.

Can’t they just declare certainty and then threaten to imprison or execute anyone who says otherwise?

I wish I was a scientist so I could cash in on one of those fat government paychecks.

Anybody know how this scam works?

international panel of scientists has found with near certainty that human activity is the cause of most of the temperature increases of recent decades, and warns that sea levels could conceivably rise by more than three feet by the end of the century if emissions continue at a runaway pace.

And they make this "warning" in the absence of any hard evidence to support their claim. Satelite temperature data has proven that the earth has returned to a cooling pattern since the late '90s.

But, tell the story often enough and it becomes the truth. Only, we have the emails proving fraud, lying, manipulation and outright manufacturing of climate "data" to match the AGW hoax narrative.

Climate "scientists" the ship has sailed. You'll have to find another boat to book passage on.

“It’s odd that the New York Times would present something that is so blatantly and verifiably false like this.”

Methinks your may be crediting the Times unduly.

Funding makes global warming go up.

I'm still waiting for one of them to explain how carbon dioxide, which plants need for photosynthesis, and use to produce oxygen, is a "greenhouse" gas. If it really is causing gloBULL warming, then I want them to explain how we humans are at fault, being as all industrial activity combined produces only about one half of one percent of the carbon produced on Earth per year (the rest of it being produced by nature itself).

Then I want them to reconcile the reports from the British Meteorological Office and other sources that show the Earth's average temperature hasn't increased one iota since 1997, and may even be on a slight downward trend.

I'm not holding my breath.

This statement is so blatantly false that it seems to have been written by a not too bright 12-year-old with delusions.

For laughs, look up how the 90%, now 95%, 'certainty' figure was arrived at.

Not the left per se. The environmentalist wing of the left will NEVER give up until the remaing 300,000 humans on the planet live in their utopian harmony with bears and fight them without guns for salmon swimming upstream.

That’s childs play though. The taxpayer funded research grant junkies in academia have nowhere else to go. They can’t get a real job working.

“Near Certainty”. In other words “we’re still guessing”.

When they’re ready to go for certain certainty, I’ll pay attention. Not believe, mind you, but pay attention.

human activity is the cause of most of the temperature increases of recent decades, and warns that sea levels could conceivably rise by more than three feet by the end of the century...

There are four serious problems with that statement.
First, the absolute statement is made based on computer simulations performed by academics known and proven to be dishonest manipulators of the input parameters.
Second, the "projections (guesses)" are always defined into the far future such as to make it impossible to demonstrate the incompetence of the process.
Third, the promoters of the sea level rise have revised the previous "certain" prediction of 20 feet (!).

Fourth, the fraudulent "scientists" fail to address and explain the much much hugher previous documented rises in sea level known to have occurred over known geologic history, before any possible contribution by "human activity."

Meanwhile, real scientists with a lifetime of achievement, are ignored.

So what's wrong with that picture?

Yep, change the confidence interval or 500 other things. You can make any study say whatever preconceived result you want.

The hard part is getting the sheeple to buy it and not question it. That’s what the state run media does.
