Analysis: Obama won't say it, but vote on Syria has high stakes for his presidency
Reuters ^ | Sept 7, 2013 | By Roberta Rampton and Caren Bohan

(Reuters) - It seems that everyone in Washington is talking about it except President Barack Obama: When Congress votes on the administration's request to use military force in Syria, the future of his presidency could well be on the line.

A defeat, a distinct possibility, would hobble Obama in affairs both foreign and domestic, particularly if fellow Democrats collaborate in it.

It will hurt him at a critical juncture, as he confronts not only Syria, but the nuclear activities of Iran and North Korea, another round of battles with Republicans over fiscal issues, an immigration bill, and a possibly difficult nomination fight over a new chairman of the Federal Reserve.

Using Obama's presidency as an argument as Congress ponders a resolution authorizing military action is off-limits for the administration - it would make the debate about Obama and cost the president votes from some Republicans he is counting on.

"My credibility is not on the line," Obama said at a news conference in Stockholm on Wednesday, five days after he announced he would seek congressional authorization for a strike on Syria over an August 21 chemical weapons attack in that country.

"The international community's credibility is on the line. And America and Congress' credibility is on the line."

ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM

But if ever there was an "elephant" in a room, the Obama legacy is it.

A 'no' vote would be a "catastrophe" for Obama...

Oh, yeah. I’m with Sarah and Cruz all the way on this one. Drill, baby, drill! We’ve got our own oil and don’t have to be dependent on foreign countries. And to hell with the premature rush to green energy b/s. Revive coal, oil and gas and let our industries flourish. Let the free markets provide alternative energy solutions if, when and after the technology is developed and proven to be reliable and competitive.

Free America works best!!

When the congress votes him down (and they will or America will have their heads), he’s finished. The entire world now sees him as the pathetic joke he’s always been.
*******
The liberal American media will rush to his defense like they always do. But this time they have some heavy lifting to do as Obama foolishly backed himself into a corner. A crisis of his own doing.

Americans do not want another war. No amount of prime time hogwash is going to change that.
*******
I believe you are right. Over the past decade we have expended an enormous amount of blood and treasure. War fatigue has set in, big time. Enough is enough.

My position on Iran remains where it has been.

Israel will strike Iran before they have nuclear weapons. We should provide them any material support they need in terms of bombs and aircraft, and if necessary, offshore artillery strikes to hobble a retaliation.

So he went to congress pretty sure they would say no and there’s his scape goat. He can blame the house and those nasty obstructionist republicans! Have A BOTTLE OF BEER AND GO GOLFING! You should know that EVERYTHING he does is political!

Sounds like a young fellow who sits on a couch with smoking a weed or some thing with a homosexual friend. There are lots of people in the USA with same behavior especially among the young know all crowd. The Nation would do well to get familiar with a photo of such a fellow.

During First Friday last night my parish priest begged us to call our Congressman and Senators, and tell them to stay out of Syria.

He also asked us to fast and pray along with Pope Francis for the day.

Drill, baby, drill! And frack, baby, frack.

Even coal can be cleaned up enough to transition over forty years to the modest amount of new green energy we will get economically.

End government subsidy of wacko green scams, price leases properly and require lease development.

We'll be swimming in energy.

Carbon tax and climate change scams should earn prison.

Go Australia!

If he has a library, they will have to make sure everything is in “print” format. The visitors don’t do cursive.

Do you really believe such people would even know what a library is let alone enter one?

Tuesday’s speech may be the first I ever stomach for more than 2 minutes.

“Frazier goes down!”

Obama’s “credibility” is the liberal way, the media way, to sell democrats on the need to stand by their man. It’s, they think, what will keep defense conservatives rooting for a Syrian campaign.

The truth is that no member of America’s military should die just so a president can save face.

And, America should never be Al Qaeda’s Air Force, Ground force, or sea force.

This is a propaganda piece aimed at the supporters of dear leader. They can’t get the ‘rat base to follow dear leader into war, so they have to make it about his “presidency.”

Ed Asner revealed the truth - The anti-war Left won’t speak out against our PINO/Usurper in Chief because HE IS BLACK - of course if it were a Republican Black President, do you think Eddie would be holding his tongue??? Alas, one must be Black & a Leftie to retain fellow Leftie support.

It’s impossible to be black and conservative. In those cases the color chart says dark, dark white.

This whole thing is fishy. This is way too public for the Democrats. If they seriously wanted to attack Syria, they would have gone quiet. Harry Reid is involved. Nancy Pelosi is involved. Over Syria? Syria? There’s more to this agenda. And in this case, I’m not sure that it’s money. If it was all about money, they’d go quiet, like Libya. There’s a reason for the Democrats to draw attention to this.
