ONLY GOD GIVES PEACE

The Lord will give [unyielding and impenetrable] strength to His people; the Lord will bless His people with peace. — Psalm 29:11

One of the greatest ways God speaks to us and leads us is through the inner witness. In other words, we just know inside what is right or wrong. It is a deeper level of knowing than “head knowledge.” This type of knowing is in the spirit—we simply have peace or a lack of peace. By the presence or absence of peace, we know what we should do.

I once spoke with a woman who needed to make a serious decision. Her family and friends were giving her advice, but she needed to know within herself what the right answer was because she was the one who would have to live with it. She had been in a certain business all of her life and was feeling that she wanted to get out of it and stay home with her children. Of course, this would require drastic financial adjustments and personal changes for her, things that could even affect her emotionally. She needed to know from God, not from other people, what the right decision was.

The woman went to a retreat with a relative. During the course of that weekend, as she praised and worshipped God and listened to the speaker, a knowing and a peace came into her heart that she was indeed right about closing the business. She said a moment just came when she knew what was right. She has had peace about her decision ever since.

It is amazing how well-meaning people can tell us things, yet they really don’t affect us. But when God speaks to us about a matter, it has a great impact on us. Ask God for the inner witness that only He can give.

God is closer than the telephone so all you have to do is ask.

Dear God:
I ask that no Airman, Coast Guardsman,
Marine, Sailor, Soldier, Reservist, or National Guardsman
Feel alone or forgotten.

O Israel, hope in the Lord;
For with the Lord there is loving kindness,
And with Him is abundant redemption.
And He will redeem Israel
From all his iniquities.

Psalm 130:7 & 8

LOL! Trial retirement not going well, huh?

Sounds nice while one is working, but is a different story being home ALL the time.

A Blessed Lord’s Day to you and yours.

Light Up The Night

September 8, 2013

On a mild fall evening when the sky was dark and the moon was full, thousands of people in my hometown gathered along the banks of the river to light sky lanterns. They released them into the darkness, and watched as the lights rose to join the moon in a dazzling display that turned the night sky into a sparkling work of art.

When I saw pictures of the event, I was disappointed that I was out of town and had missed it. But a few days later I realized that what had happened in Grand Rapids could be seen as a symbol of the conference I was attending in New York City. More than 1,000 people from 100 cities around the world had gathered there to plan a “work of art”—how to light up the darkness of their own cities by planting churches and reaching thousands of people with the gospel of Christ, the Light of the world.

The prophet Daniel wrote about a time when those who turn others to the Lord will shine like stars forever (Dan. 12:3). We can all join in that great event. When we shine the light of Christ in dark places where we live and work, He is lighting up the night sky with stars that never will go out.

I want to shine for You in my world, Lord. Show
me how to lift You up, the Light of the world. I look
forward to that day when I will gather with people
from all nations to bow at Your feet and worship You.
When the Light of the world illuminates the earth, His beauty will attract people from every nation.

Those who are wise shall shine like the brightness of the firmament. —Daniel 12:3
