No worse than MSNBC.
Comcast, Verizon, etc., customers are also forced to pay for MTV, Glee, and all other sorts of offensive content.
Forced is maybe too strong a word...as those customers could terminate their contracts if they were too overly offended.
They will not be renewed IMO.
Same in Norway, if you’re on any cable/dish.
Also, you’re paying for Hezbollah.
From what I see they are spending far more in a vain attempt to promote it than they are ever going to gain in viewership. Current likely had more.
Although I need their internet service, I cancelled comcast cable. We strictly use APPLE TV - we buy what we want, no commercials, and we can monitor the TV.
Roku. PlayOn. FU MSM.
I would imagine that the PBS station paid AJ to do so.
All those Spanish channels are not helping me a bit.
I watched Al Jazeera when it was on Roku. It was the only live news show we could get. Doubt that you will believe it, but it was very good. There was so much more coverage of world news than we ever see on our so-called news networks. Even Fox is terrible lately. They subsitute human interest stories for real news or they have 2 talking heads shout at each other for half an hour. AJ had real news coverage. Watch it yourself for a while and decide. Don’t let anyone else tell you what sources you can access.
Al Jazera is evil.
That said, no one is being forced to pay for it. Case in point. My wife, just this morning, boxed up our Dish Network receiver and associated crap to send back to them. We cancelled our service and will do without in order to not WILLINGLY pay for Al Jezera and other propaganda networks.
This amuses me. Lots of bitching and moaning here about all the trash on these cable and satellite TV services. You all know that you’re putting money into the pockets of al sharpton and msnbc, the weasels in the boardroom at MTV and now al jazeera, every time you pay your bill. But none of you actually believe what you say about how horrible all that is for the country and culture. Nope...your fake reality shows about ducks and pawn shops and professional wrestling and hour long shows reminding you that the US won WW2 and 24/7 sports are way more important to you all.
Forced - what by gun point?
No one is forced to watch TV.
I’m considering removing HBO from my Direct TV package just to get rid of Bill Maher (sp).
I’m not aware of anything that prevents someone from dropping Comcast or Dish if they don’t like the content they’re paying for.
On my Comcast system it’s channel 107 - not part of the “digital starter” package.
We need a menu-type systems for cable subscribers (as if THAT will ever happen, MSNBC and CNN, BET and UNIVISION would be out of business overnight). I’d love to get a number of channels off of my system and out of my house and it grates me that I have to pay for Spanish or Armenian-language TV.
Better yet, unhook the cable and be done with it. This is what DH is pushing at our house and I think he’s right...
One of the many reasons I’m giving up Satellite/Cable as soon as my contract with DirecTV expires this winter. I do not want to subsidize garbage like MSNBC, Logo, or Al-Jazerra.
Other main reasons:
1) Cost. By going with an over-the-air antenna, some computer upgrades, and AppleTVs, I’ll save money in the long run (break even after about 9 months or so), and that’s still budgeting $30/month to buy content I can’t get OTA.
2) Control. With my kids getting a little older (8, 6, and 6), I want a lot more control of the content coming into the house. No MTV, thanks.
