Unfazed by Colorado recalls, California lawmakers press on with gun-control bills

SACRAMENTO -- A day after furious Coloradans recalled two state senators who voted for new gun laws, California lawmakers pressed ahead with their own agenda Wednesday aimed at giving the Golden State the strictest gun control in the country.

Colorado's recall elections and California's rush to pass gun bills in the final week of its legislative session quickly reignited the national debate over balancing public safety with constitutional rights.

The Colorado votes sent a Rocky Mountain chill down the spines of lawmakers in other battleground states, but those in bright blue California seemed unfazed.

"I don't see anybody switching teams here," said Tom Ammiano, D-San Francisco, chairman of the Assembly Public Safety Committee.

Assemblywoman Shannon Grove, R-Bakersfield, seemed resigned to the Democratic-controlled Legislature passing a slew of new gun laws, but held out hope that Gov. Jerry Brown will shoot many of them down with his veto pen. "I just pray to God that Jerry Brown is the savior of the Second Amendment in this state," she said.

Among the most controversial bills, Senate Bill374 by state Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg, D-Sacramento -- which would ban all semi-automatic rifles with detachable magazines -- passed the Assembly on a 44-31 vote late Tuesday.

So my Ruger 10/22 is illegal and I am a criminal for owning one.

Isn't that more of an anvil than a flotation device?

That’s the way they want it. You know to get us all in line and ready for the new world order per U.N. Agenda 21 guidelines which will all convert us into Total Recall and Demolition Man type citizens.

The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren’t enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws.

As I understand it, it will be illegal to sell or transfer a Ruger 10/22 in California, but not to own one that you legally possessed prior to the adoption of the law in question. Mind you, you will have to register it with the CA government as a dreaded "assault weapon" or you will be a criminal.

Colorado MUST become the national model on how to clean the political sewers everywhere. If not, welcome to slavery for yourselves and your children and grandchildren. The endeavor takes American patriots with spine and guts which is lacking in DC on every level.

Apparently you crossed the “red line” by owning a 10/22. Maybe they’ll just mini-bomb you if you are ever seen with it. I guess my wife can’t take her’s across the state line now either. As long as LA, SF, Oakland and the other major pop centers hold the majority of the votes, the good law abiding outliers will be subjugated by the brilliant pols in charge. Sad for such a beautiful state.

Hey, you have to ask yourself why do you need one? (Yes that’s sarcasm) The libs think no one needs a firearm (wrong) so no one should be allowed to own one. (Wrong again) The libs would be happy if we all took up their hobbies - planning gay pride events and getting on our knees for Muslims. Not happening libs!

“California lawmakers pressed ahead with their own agenda Wednesday”

The politicians in California have nothing to worry about. There aren’t going to be any recalls over gun control.

They tell me Mexico has their eye on annexing California, via the Aztlan movement.

I say, turn it over now. It's certainly not America.

Not that it matters much, but during one of the modifications to the bill they exempted rimfires. So your 10/22 is ok for now......but God help you if it is a centerfire semi auto....

And just think, in the last few years Californians have bought tons of AR/AK type rifles with the helps of the bullet button work around, and those sheeple are not going to be happy when they find out they just spent $1k or so to become a felon overnight!

You will be harassed whenever you are seen with the gun, though. You will be asked to prove that it’s grandfathered. Busy bodies who see you with it will call the police.

The busy bodies won’t know a rim fire from a pin fire...

They will see a semi-auto with a detachable magazine, and make it their business to have you harassed.

Isn’t that the truth! BTW, I’m actually somewhat surprised that anyone even knows what a pin fire is anymore..... when I grew up you would’ve been ridiculed for the common day persons lack of gun knowledge.

The so-called thought processes of some people are very strange.

And in 1982 voters in Cali voted down a ban on handguns(Prop 15). Since that day the legislature of cali has been working overtime to find a way around the will of the people.

Side note. Since they could not ban handguns, they went for semi-auto rifles! The first proposed law also banned SOME LEVER ACTION WINCHESTER RIFLES. Neal Knox was the one who spilled the beans on this.

So Cali modified the law, and set it on the shelf. Then they released Pat Purdy from a mental institution (seventh time), allowed him to buy a handgun in Cali, even passed the waiting period, got an AK-47 out of state, then shot up the school in Stockton Ca. The bill was immediately brought out, and before any opposition could be mounted passed it into law.

It has been downhill for gun owners in Cali since.
