Obama Insists: Assad must Step Down
Arutz Sheva ^ | 09/12/2013 | Adam Ross

Leading Kuwaiti newspaper Alrai has reported that the U.S. administration will demand that any agreement made with Syria should commit President Bashar al-Assad to step aside, and commit the remaining parties to working towards a cease-fire agreement. Reportedly, the new U.S. demand has been met with fury in Syria, where regime officials claim such a move would ride roughshod over the "democratic rights" of the Syrian people to elect their own leader.

Sources close to the Syrian President were quoted as saying: "Not Iran, Russia and not the United State can decide who the Syrian President will be, " adding, "the Syrian leadership expected the demands of Washington to get bigger and bigger, but this is illegal and cannot be considered."

The source added: "The intention was to enter into an agreement regarding chemical weapons that would ensure they don't fall into the wrong hands, but there will be no agreement that seeks to further strengthen the terrorist rebel forces."

Once checkmate has been reached, you don’t get any more moves, Barry.

I just heard on Fox that Assad is willing to sign the ‘no chemical weapons’ agreement soon. So if this is true that Obama wants Assad to step down it sounds as though he is being ignored. Since this is reported in Kuwait it may just be catering to those that want Assad out.

Good points but Obamacare and Benghazi mean very little now in the long run. There is something much worse that they must cover up.

Can Obama strike Syria or even expect Assad to step down when Russia and Syria announce progress to the world?

Yes. And Obama will strike Syria. That is where Putin made his fatal mistake. He assumed Obama had a conscience.

Problem is that if Assad just steps down with terrorist now being the opposition, then you would be turning the dictatorship over to a new Radical Islamic regime.

Good luck with that.

> I thought this wasn’t about regime change...

Barry’s getting antsy that that Assad Removal commission fee paid by Qatar might go to Putin instead.

If Assad steps down it will mean the deaths of many Christians and alawite Muslims in Syria by the Moose-limb brotherhood...

Probably. And probably why that gambit is on the table. Assad will never go unless he's carried out toes up.

If not Assad, who? The country would fall into total civil war.

The Saudis want Assad out so they can build their pipeline to compete with the Russians.

I wonder what the next manufactured crisis will be? Will happen right before the witnesses from Benghazi testify or right after.

A pipeline from Iraq runs through the Syrian Desert. They couldn’t have another one from Saudi? Big desert.

Whatever happened to free enterprise? Why either/or?
