A religious studies professor at Texas Christian University sent an email offering special tutoring to “STUDENTS OF COLOR ONLY.”
An anonymous student in Santiago Piñón’s “Understanding Religion: Society and Culture” class received the following email from the professor and forwarded it to Inside Higher Ed:
“At the beginning of the semester I usually like to invite all my students of color to get together and discuss the challenges they may face during the semester. However, the time slipped by and I didn’t get a chance. So, I would like to ask if you are interested in a get together on Monday afternoon? We can also discuss the exam that is coming up, if you want. I don’t mind if this would turn out to be a study session for my STUDENTS OF COLOR ONLY.”
The student believes that Piñón sent his offer of assistance to students with Hispanic-sounding last names. The student said she has a Hispanic last-name, but is only one-quarter Hispanic.
“I straight up just got segregated by my own teacher. I’m 75 [percent] white,” she wrote on Facebook, according to Inside Higher Ed.
One of the students who received the email notified university administrators. Piñón later announced that the study session was cancelled, and it did not take place on Monday....

TCU doesn’t even pretend to be Christian. I went with my daughter on a visit there to audition for the dance team. Everyone from the admissions counsellor to students conducting the tour was very careful to say that even though it says Christian in the name, it is not a part of campus life, and you do not have to participate in any Christian activity to be a student. I actually asked admissions why they left the Christian part in their name when they spent so much time trying to run away from it. Needless to say, my daughter and my tuition money go elsewhere.
He was just practicing affirmative action, which is inherently preferential.

Actually the term was intended to unite all nonwhites into a larger political pressure group.
Our country is mostly run by whites and “people of color” who achieve their position by granting favor to racial minorities in general over whites in general.
Most people can see the wrong in what this professor was doing, but overlook the similar programs that colleges have institutionalized more broadly.

I tell my young sons something along the same lines, pointing out all of the things around them that were designed & built by white guys. I feel I have no choice, as they are bombarded with “girl power” messages and PC nonsense where all dark people are geniuses and white guys are dopes like Homer Simpson. One can certainly see how Europeans colinized much of the world, and in their heart of hearts most of the colonized have to admit they improved things (roads, hospitals, trade, medicine). While exploitation certainly did occur (and I won’t defend it), some of the former colonies want their masters back...

You’re right; I remember watching some “endangered minorities” occupying seats for a semester or two (before dropping out) that could have been used by a real student who instead received a rejection letter. Today any “endangered minority” can get into college by simply finishing high school with a “gentleman’s D”; since teachers can’t grade them honestly (at any point in their lives) the result is a semi-literate (or outright illiterate) “student” lacking the most basic skills.
A whole side industry has sprung up at colleges where the token students spend many semesters taking high school classes (with no college credits) to get them up to the level of white high school graduates (in other words, so they have the same classes required of white applicants up front). After a year or two of this many give up anyway (with no credits).
