~The FReeper Canteen Presents~

Road Trip: Marine Corps Logistics Base, Albany, Georgia

Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany is a United States Marine Corps base located in Albany, Georgia. The primary mission of the units on the base is to rebuild and repair ground-combat and combat-support equipment and to support installations on the East Coast of the United States. Today, one of MCLB Albany’s most important facilities is the Marine Corps Logistics Command's Maintenance Center.

The base was commissioned on March 1, 1952, as the Marine Corps Depot of Supplies. At that time, Marine Brigadier General R.P. Coffman assumed command and a small contingent of Marines established headquarters in temporary buildings.

Albany was chosen as the site for the logistics base after a two-year search in the early 1950s for a level area convenient to the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean and serviced by road and rail. Albany was also attractive for its inland location, well away from the possibility of saltwater corrosion of the stored equipment, and its adequate workforce.

Today's Marine Corps Logistics Base, Albany, comprises more than 3,300 acres and in 2002 employed more than 2,400 civilians along with a complement of 600 marines. The Albany Maintenance Center is also the home base for the commander of the Marine Corps Logistics Bases, which includes those located at Barstow, California, and Jacksonville, Florida.

The Base mission is to provide comprehensive logistics support to the MARFOR and other customers for the full spectrum of operating and combat requirements; perform the full range of Logistics Center functions for items assigned Integrated Materiel Management responsibility; perform the full range of Inventory Management functions for PEI's subsequent to the acquisition phase.

MCLB Albany performs the full range of logistics management functions to include accomplishing assigned LEM responsibilities in the acquisition of new items of equipment, monitoring fielded Marine Corps weapons systems readiness, cataloging and delegating standardization functions for the Marine Corps, and provides central management for all assets held by the MARFOR.

Seeing God In Familiar Places

September 17, 2013

Because of where I live, I’m treated to spectacular displays of the magnificent, creative glory of God. Recently, on a drive through the woods, I was struck with a breath-taking display of deep rich reds and a variety of yellows that decorated the trees of autumn—all artfully arranged against the backdrop of a brilliant blue sky.

And soon, as the temperatures plummet and winter blows in, I’ll be reminded that no two snowflakes are ever the same as they pile on top of one another to create a rolling landscape of pristine white drifts. After that will come the miracle of spring, when that which seemed hopelessly dead bursts into life with buds and blossoms that will grace the meadows with a multiplicity of colors.

Wherever we look in the world around us, we see evidence that “the whole earth is full of His glory!” (Isa. 6:3). What is amazing is that the creation that surrounds us is damaged by sin (see Rom. 8:18-22), yet God has seen fit to grace our fallen landscape with these loving brushstrokes of His creative hand. It serves as a daily reminder that the beauty of His grace covers our sin and that His love for that which is fallen is always available to us.

Lord, may we be ever mindful of Your grace and love
in all that surrounds us. Thank You for making Yourself
visible through the beauty of Your creation. Teach us
to look beyond the beauty to see Your hand at work.
Never pass up an opportunity to enjoy nature’s beauty—it’s the handwriting of God.

Read: Isaiah 6:1-6

The whole earth is full of His glory! —Isaiah 6:3

REST IN PEACE, FALLEN BROTHERS AND SISTERS!

IN MEMORIAM
Patriots Fallen At Washington Navy Yard
16 September 2013

I have fought a good fight,
I have finished my course,
I have kept the faith.
2 Timothy 4:7 (KJV)

"Arm yourselves, and be ye men of valour,
and be in readiness for the conflict;
for it is better for us to perish in battle than to
look upon the outrage of our nation and our altar.
As the Will of God is in Heaven, even so let it be."
(1 Maccabees 3:58–60)

Rest in Peace, fallen brothers, rest in peace!
We who remain hold you in high honor.
Rest, fallen brothers, in this sacred precinct;
We who remain keep this place sacred.
Rest, fallen brothers, among these, your comrades;
We who remain keep the watch.
Rest, fallen brothers, among these who answered the Nation’s call;
We who remain press the fight forward in your name.
Rest, fallen brothers, lay down thy burden;
We who remain have taken up the torch.
Rest in Peace, fallen brothers, rest in eternal peace!

It did not - the Navy Yard is on the east side of the city and I am in the west end - about 3-1/2 miles away. Had no problems on the way home this evening.
