Good evening, Mac...*HUGS*...hope you’ve made it through the week unscathed. Commutes ok on Friday?

I made it! I’m finally starting to feel like I’ll live. Rough week. Really need this weekend. Possible freezing, so I need to bring in the hoses, and make sure all is well outside.

Thanks, Connie, for the tributes to our troops. *HUGS*

Hope you finished out your week with a nice, easy commute.

My haircutter needs to travel to Oklahoma next week, so my regular Wednesday haircut is tonight.

I am off...back for tunes when I get home.

Good evening, Kathy!

*HUGS*

An easy commute in this morning - a rough commute home. That's the typical Friday pattern here in the Federalplex. What I can't understand, after all these years, is that if the morning commute is so easy, where do all these people come from in the afternoon?

I'm glad to hear you're finally feeling better. I was under the weather last night - did not attend choir and went to bed early. Feeling much better today.

We've gotten down to 40 here - unusual for this early in September. Still, it won't be long before we have to turn the outside water off - I hope I remember to this year - we've had our pipes break more than once due to our forgetfulness.

I hope you have a great - and restful - weekend. Tomorrow afternoon we go up to Mrs. MacNessa's brother's - 25th Anniversary - renewal of vows and celebration. Twenty-five years ago I sang at their wedding. I slipped in the liturgically incorrect song "Believe Me If All Those Endearing Young Charms" as a meditation. I'll sing it again tomorrow as my SIL, Renee, walks down the aisle. I thought that would be a nice touch, and my BIL agrees. Renee has no inkling of any of this, alhough I guess when she sees the mob of cars she'll know something is up.! :)

Good evening, ML!!

***HUGS***

It's great to see you this evening! I hope you can find a way to stay cool! There are many things I can endure, but heat is not one of them! Would a cool bath help?

At age 30, Lou Beethoven was experimenting with the art of the sonata. The Opus 26 sonata had not one movement in genuine sonata format, but he didn’t advertise it that way. This time in the Opus 27 sonatas, he went for truth in advertising. The two sonatas are labeled “Sonata Like a Fantasy”, which indicates that Lou is experimenting freely.

The first piece of this group, the Piano Sonata in E-flat, Op. 27/1, is one long arch of sound with the movements joined by the marking attacca subito, which means “jump into the next movement without stopping”. It starts out with an andante first movement, i.e., walking pace, in 2/2 time. This is a pseudo-theme-and-variations exercise, and the theme is rather stately yet a bit playful at the same time.
Variation #1 plays around the theme and jumps into C Major for the second half.
Variation #2 breaks the theme into pieces.
An episode at 3:29 jumps headlong into C Major, the time signature shifts to 6/8, and the marking to allegro.
At 4:14, he brings back the theme and winds it down gently.

The surprise comes when he segues into the second movement, a scherzo in 3/4, which is marked allegro molto e vivace, very fast and lively. It’s a dark movement in C minor. The trio section oscillates between A-flat and E-flat before returning to the opening theme.

Lou segues into the slow movement in A-flat, 3/4 time, marked adagio con espressione, a marking we’ve seen before. This is a stately and contemplative interlude, a short conversation with God. He trills his way into the next movement...

A rondo finale in 2/4 and E-flat marked allegro vivace, fast and lively. This dance is a warmup for the finale of his Archduke Trio which was to come 15 years later.
At 15:02, he brings back the slow movement in E-flat to help unify the piece and then jumps into a presto coda.

It's good to be back.

If you have a Facebook connection, run a search on "Arlene Schar". She informed me that she uploaded 140 photographs of her stay in Georgia on her Facebook page, with some choice pictures of me.

I wanted to include "Highway 60" by Johnny "Guitar" Watson, but it's apparently not on Youtube. So here are a couple of tunes about a thoroughfare that's about a half a mile from my home:

Pico and Sepulveda? I haven’t been there in a while. I don’t get over to the West Side much these days.
