That's not a bad strategy.
Once its implemented, no matter how bad, it's in. Delay in implementation for a year will increase the chances of stopping if we get the House and Senate.
If he demands it now and votes against cloture without a delay amendment now, I’d risk it.
I hope the Dems block a delay from passing but apparently even they wouldn’t be that stupid. a delay is the fallback position of both Party’s establishment after all.
Otherwise no go- defund or surrender.
“now”: the bill before the Senate now.
I think a one year delay is an excellent fall back tactic. I’d prefer a 9 month delay, so the impact hits right at election time, but I’ll go with a one year delay hitting next October.
I also believe this is directly due to the efforts of Sen. Ted Cruz.
He led.
Others cowered.
You have a good point and I agree that defund is much more preferable to delay.
But if this West Virginia Democrat Senator is moved by his constituents to buck the party line over Obamacare, then I think more democrat Senators will want to do likewise. If their constituents can urge them to vote no on Cloture, then we can have defund with striking distance. If they go with delay, then at least the House will be motivated to stand firm on defunding because the Senate is softening.
I think the Senate effort by Ted is running out of time but a lot can happen within 48 hours.
However, Plan B is as Ted said that a Senate CR goes back to the House with an Obamacare funding amendment and the House needs to take it out and defund Obamacare again. They need to stand firm.
We could go a few cycles of this. In the meantime, people keep calling their Senators and if we soften up enough dems for defund or delay, we may be able to deny a cloture in the Senate the next time around or the third time around.
As Ted said, the Cloture vote is the most important Senate vote this year. Denying Cloture in the Senate means they must defund Obamacare or they will be responsible for shutting down government.
The senate and president would have to agree to delay. Good luck with that.
If the house doesn’t fund it, it doesn’t get funded. Period. And there’s nothing Obama/Reid can do about it but whine and threaten. That’s the constitutional and straight forward way to get it done. It’s the tool provided by our Founding Fathers to rein in an out of control chief executive and senate. We need to urge, er, demand that our representatives use it. You can bet that Reid uses all the constitutional tools at his disposal against us. Even some that are not constitutional. Way past time for our reps to fight back.
Not a good deal for the GOP. In this scenario, Obamacare gets funded, the net cost balloons due to this shortfall in coerced revenue, and the Obama team gets another full year to sort out their mess, cover things up, get their story straight, etc. in the run-up to 2014.
If the GOP is serious, then winning commanding majorities in both houses in the 2014 elections needs to be the primary concern. In 2012 it failed to stand against Obamacare by its nomination of Romney, and failed to get the support of much of its own base - a group more than large enough to have swung the election the other way - as a direct result.
The strategy that will win majorities is rolling back the tide of absurd, nonsensical, expensive, and oppressive federal legislation, of which Obamacare is the archetype. Kicking the can to fix what cannot be fixed, that is not a winning strategy. Standing idle while the consequences rain down on the country is not a winning strategy either.
It’s fight Obamacare to the last, or go home time for the GOP.
Tomorrow or Saturday, when a cloture vote is taking place in the US Senate, we'll see how far Manchin breaks with Reid and the White House. I suspect his vote will be YEA in lockstep with Durbin, Coons, Schumer, Mikulski, Warren, Murray, Hagan, etc.
Obama lost West Virginia. Obama is destroying the coal indsutry the states leading resource...Manchin is screwed politically if he continues to support the man who is workingn to destroy his state.
May the numbers increase!

I prefer repeal first, defund second, but will take delay.
Why: it gives us time to fight and slowly play out the horror show that it is. Drip, drip, drip. If mcconnellcare is implemented, it’s a nation destroyer. I’m not ready for that.
Delay it till hell freezes over.
When they passed this boondoggle, they delayed it for 3 years. I think the house should hold out for another 3 year delay.
when someone who is not retiring and up for reelection joins in then we have something newsworthy.
One “sanctioned” senator defection is ok in order to give him cover.
He never had it.
I agree. 3 year delay would be awesome.
And then another 3.
:>)
I see that his approval numbers are way down from 2012 too. Bears good news for us in 2014 there with the open Senate seat.
I wish Manchin would switch parties already
