Study: Insurance costs to soar under Obamacare
CBS News ^ | Sept 26, 2013 | Kathy Kristof

New research from the Manhattan Institute estimates that insurance rates for young men will rise by 99 percent. Rates for younger women will rise between 55 percent to 62 percent, according to the right-leaning New York think tank.

The precise impact of the new health law is likely to vary markedly from state-to-state, however.

These differences mean men will get hammered in North Carolina with an average 305 percent rate hike, while women will suffer in Nebraska, paying an average of 237 percent more. For most people, subsidies in the law will not counteract the rate shock, says co-author of the study Avik Roy, a health care expert and senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute.

Since I hocked the graphic I am not responsible for other’s mistakes. It should have been median income. LOL

And if they were from Memphis that would not be very high. With the exception of high government officials only FedEx owner makes the most in Memphis.

The people have already reshaped the government and this is one of the results.

This is the result when good people ALLOW those in government to get away with the things they do.

Most of them should be in jail and a good majority should be hanging from lamp posts.

Will all that I bet the rates in the exchanges plans are just teaser offerings. Later they will adjust them higher ...

Yes, they will TRIPLE in 3 years. And that's just what's planned.

just wait and see

Think what's going to happen when people who've never had an insurance policy before begin to discover everything that's free. Taking advantage of all of the freebies will cause costs to skyrocket, and insurance rates to be unsustainable within a few years.

In my nightmare hospital experience four years ago, I encountered an interesting group among those hospitalized over night. They were people who wanted to be there, for the free meals and room. I'm not kidding.

many will just opt to pay that IRS penalty

I'm wondering if at some point they'll have to say that once you've bought the insurance, you can't "opt out" because if you need to get it later there will be a horrible penalty. That's how they scare seniors into getting part B of Medicare.

What we could end up seeing is a two tiered situation. Those that can afford to do so will opt out and pay for the best private care. The best doctors, nurses, etc will serve private patients.

Actually, what could have worked is if the program were just insurance for catastrophic diseases. Instead everyone had an agenda and it all got included in this mess.

Awwwww. Poor babies. Too bad you were so stupid you voted for this pos. You get what you pay for and you pay for what you do.

I can afford it longer than most and I hope it becomes such a heavy price that it collapses the whole damn system. I hope it results in an outright backlash of monumental proportions.

Some of us didn’t set and let it happen. We screamed bloody murder but reed and blinky were in total power and crammed it down our throats.

Costs are going through the roof and will never come down even if this mess is repealed. The costs are only one part thought.... the invasions of privacy, the loss of quality, the rules, the intrusive questions.

I agree that it will be an unpopular mess — even more than today. But the result will be a complete government takeover. In Russia, the anarchists led the way, then the Bolsheviks stepped in to take charge.

Your daughter’s Rx must have been brand-name Vibramycin (I see you realize that). I just bought #100 100mg generic doxycycline online for $73. The price has gone up as I used to buy it for $25. As you say, at a walk in chemist or farmacia in a third-world country it would be less.

I wonder why it costs so much. It seems, even, when I get an RX for Cipro it is a reasonable sum.

This is for acne. It seems strange to me they are still treating acne with these methods. I thought they'd have something new and improved. (besides Accutane).

Ahhh, you must be referring to Doryx. That drug makes me angry every time I see the bottle. It contains plain old doxycycline, but in a super special once a day time release tablet as opposed to the mean evil twice a day dosage one can purchase for about $950 less.

We are slowly turning into a “if you can’t beat them, join them” Society. Cloward Piven is a success.

Ask yourselves, how many people who you thought “got it” ended up joining the “Bush’s Fault” meme, whether discussing Iraq or the Economy?

I am now talking to people who think Obamacare will work fine. They have no qualms about the Government running their Healthcare, citing Medicare as a success.

We are doomed. The Sheeple can’t see the difference between a Wolf and a Sheep Dog.

Yep. A large percentage of voters don’t mind if the country goes down the drain, so long as the government bennies keep flowing.

You bring up a good point. Liberals proclaim Social Security (and Medicare) as a success, pointing to the great wealth of retirees. It doesn’t matter if the budget and the entire country are going down the drain. That’s OK. So long as their constituents are fat, dumb and happy.
