Sen McCain: Sorry About That Whole “Wacko Birds” Deal, Guys:Apologizes Calling Tea Party "Wackos"
Daily Caller ^ | October 10, 2013 | Jim Treacher

Posted on 10/10/2013 8:14:21 PM PDT by lbryce

Sen. John McCain said Thursday that he’s worried about the Republican Party’s future and the infighting that is dividing it, calling efforts by conservatives to unseat incumbent Republican lawmakers “wrong.”

The famously wry McCain, R-Ariz., said he regretted calling the Tea Party wing of the Republican Senate conference “wacko birds” during budget negotiations, saying he’s learned to “never get personal” in political disputes…

“I do worry about the Republican Party,” he said at the Hero Summit hosted by The Daily Beast. “It’s the first time I have ever seen Republican senators running ads, raising money that is being used to attack incumbent Republican senators.”

Noting that Republican Sen. Pat Roberts of Kansas recently drew a challenger from the Right, McCain asked, “Where has Pat Roberts offended anybody?”

Since when was a seat in Congress a lifetime appointment? Since when is inoffensiveness a reason to vote for somebody? Since when is John McCain in charge of who should and shouldn’t run for public office?

But don’t worry about the “wacko birds” thing, senator. When you said that, we all just considered the source. And then we shook our heads that we were ever forced by circumstances to vote for him.

Here's the passage at issue:
In the 1980s, the war caucus in Congress armed bin Laden and the mujaheddin in their fight with the Soviet Union. In fact, it was the official position of the State Department to support radical jihad against the Soviets. We all know how well that worked out.
Let's leave aside for now the insulting, utterly asinine, sickening, inexcusable use of the phrase "war caucus" to describe those (including Reagan!) who supported the mujaheddin against the Soviets. That word choice alone is almost entirely disqualifying for its purveyor to ever be president.

Instead, let's just look at a little history here -- because the ignorance evident in this paragraph is truly astonishing. One would be hard pressed to find even a single historian, whether right, left, or center, who would argue anything other than that the Soviet failure in Afghanistan was not just a huge factor, but probably an essential one, in the Soviets' ultimate loss of the Cold War.

Rand Paul’s immigration speech

...The Republican Party must embrace more legal immigration.

Unfortunately, like many of the major debates in Washington, immigration has become a stalemate-where both sides are imprisoned by their own rhetoric or attachment to sacred cows that prevent the possibility of a balanced solution.

Immigration Reform will not occur until Conservative Republicans, like myself, become part of the solution. I am here today to begin that conversation.

Let’s start that conversation by acknowledging we aren’t going to deport 12 million illegal immigrants.

If you wish to work, if you wish to live and work in America, then we will find a place for you...

This is where prudence, compassion and thrift all point us toward the same goal: bringing these workers out of the shadows and into being taxpaying members of society.

Imagine 12 million people who are already here coming out of the shadows to become new taxpayers.12 million more people assimilating into society. 12 million more people being productive contributors.

[but he’s not in favor of amnesty, snicker, definition of is is]

Nope.

No, John.

It’s not even ‘too late’ John.

It just never was.

Go now.

Perhaps he sees that, with mumblings of a republican party break up, that he is going to be in the territory that has to find a new party, after he’d been thinking all along, time in grade counts.

That’s the Navy, not politics.

I think it’s in mighty bad taste you show up around ‘We the People’ like this.

Beat it.

Not accepted.

I’d write the creep and tell him if I could get on his damn website.

Juan can take his apology and pound sand.

Have they filed a missing elderly report on that other blithering idiot McConnell? What rock is he hiding under.

Cornpone.... FAIL!

He might as well not bother running. It’ll just be a waste of money. He should give it to some deserving candidate.
