Senator Ted Cruz easily beat the competition in the Value Voters Summit Presidential Straw Poll, winning a whopping 42 percent of votes cast by social conservatives at the summit.
Both Doctor Ben Carson and former senator Rick Santorum won 13 percent of the vote. Rounding out the top five were Senator Rand Paul (six percent) and Senator Marco Rubio (five percent).

As Cruz hews to hard line, other 2016 contenders go mute on shutdown
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/bloggers/3077997/posts
[snip] ...in the aftermath of Cruz’s fiery speech... The shutdown went unmentioned by Sens. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) and Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), both early champions of the defunding battle. Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), who is working toward a compromise with the White House on the shutdown and debt ceiling that does not erode ObamaCare, made a short argument for his alternate plan in Friday afternoon video message to the group... Paul’s and Rubio’s dodges, and Ryan’s implicit rebuke, demonstrate that they are seeking to avoid being tainted by the fight’s fallout while avoiding any confrontation with the partys base. Cruz used his speech to frame the debate over ObamaCare and the government shutdown in stark terms, painting it as a key battle in the larger war for individual freedom. [/snip]

Cruz is fearless, articulate, extremely bright, and 100% patriot.

It’ll be difficult to beat any Leftie Marxist at this point, with so many ‘Americans’ having their hands out and sucking away at Uncle Sugar’s teat.

I really think that is an over-stated and inflated position.
If the GOP actually puts up fighters and principled statesmen like Senator Ted Cruz or Governor Palin, they will win.
If instead, the put up Progressive-Lite candidates like Mitt Romney who walk away from the social agenda and limited government agenda, they will continue to lose and become more and more irrelevant.
They have a choice, either represent the people who vote for them, the base and others, or represent the big campaign contributors who are pushing things like the Gay Agenda, Amnesty, etc.
They can be Collaborators with the Democrats or they can be the principled opposition.
They cannot be both.

They put up Sarah Palin; she got trashed by the Leftist media.
The same will happen to Cruz.

So?
They did the same thing to Reagan.
I'm reminded of the following scripture:
John 15:20-21
Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also. 21But all these things will they do unto you for my name's sake, because they know not him that sent me.

Sorry if I seem cynical; I’m very old and very grouchy.
Of course I hope Cruz will be the next president; I’m just not very hopeful.
A great deal of bitter experience.
To: SoConPubbie
Cruz has pretty much locked down the SoCon wing of the party, and he’ll likely get those key Iowa endorsements. Bad news for Huckabee, who I think leans more to Christie.
To: SoConPubbie
The DNC/MSM can’t beat Ted Cruz like they did Sarah Palin.
Ted Cruz not only graduated magna cum laude from Harvard Law School, he has also been highly praised by Harvard Law School Professor Alan Dershowitz, who said of Senator Cruz, his former student, Without a doubt he is among the smartest students Ive ever had
Ive had great students but he has to be at the top of anyones short list, in terms of raw brain power.
Ted Cruz also won national college debating championships during his undergraduate years at Princeton.
Katie Couric, Sarah Palin’s nemesis, would have been mincemeat in his hands, and so will any other liberal denizen of the MSM foolish enough to take him on.
To: Jack Hammer
Im very old and very grouchy, too.
We need updated reasons to have hope for America. The establishment has gone bad and the populist culture is worse.
We are not losing the battle, we are not even in it. There is no pessimism like the pessimism born in the post-defeat age.
To: Pride in the USA; Stillwaters
But...but...the MSM and even Fox News is telling me that Ted Cruz is a big loser now and even his own party hates him. I’m soooo confuuuused. Not. :-)

You said it, Brother.

Cruz is setting the standard, raising the bar far above self service, making integrity, honesty, boldness, character and sacrifice, once again the principles of leadership, he is quickly gaining the respect, confidence and loyalty from all those who wish to once again see a free republic.
