Republican Gov. Scott Walker is using his new book to renew his criticism of 2012 GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney and raise his own national profile as a reformer who took on public sector unions and won.
Walker’s book provides a detailed account of his 2011 battle against public unions, the campaign he won against their efforts to recall him, and his unhappiness with Romney and other Republicans he says didn’t learn the lessons of his political victories. The volume could set the stage for Walker’s own candidacy in the future.
The Associated Press on Friday obtained a copy of Walker’s book, “Unintimidated: A Governor’s Story and a Nation’s Challenge,” before its scheduled release Nov. 19. Walker’s book includes an excoriation of Barack Obama’s presidency and Washington politics, saying Obama has laid out a second term agenda that “doubles down on the failures of his first.” He says Wisconsin’s Republican-led policies have shown a better way forward for the country. …

OK. So what is this new GOP message?
Too much cheeze
Amnesty, for starters.
If he was hoping for a book to generate presidential aspirations, I don’t think he approached it right. This sounds like the book of a man running for governor.
To start with, if he wants to run against Obama, now is the time to do it, not in the actual campaign, because Obama is not standing for re-election, and probably won’t. Hillary clearly intends to shoot for that goal. So he also needs to remind everyone what a monster Hillary is, but now, again before he is a candidate.
The absolutely worst thing he can do is to publicly try to triangulate the Republican establishment and the Tea Party. Mitt Romney tried to do that, and it ended up with the Tea Party loathing him.
His best bet would be to only talk to the establishment Republicans in person, and advise them to go to the back of the bus, sit down and shut up. Their agenda is suspended until further notice.
Likewise, he has to haggle with the Tea Party over the list of “if you do these things we will totally support you.” Which means putting it “in writing” before the fact. No half measures, no equivocation.
What are your concerns about Walker?

Let’s start that conversation by acknowledging we aren’t going to deport 12 million illegal immigrants... bringing these workers out of the shadows and into being taxpaying members of society. Imagine 12 million people who are already here coming out of the shadows to become new taxpayers.12 million more people assimilating into society. 12 million more people being productive contributors. ...by softening its edge on some volatile social issues and altering its image as the party always seemingly "eager to go to war... We do need to expand the party and grow the party and that does mean that we don't always all agree on every issue" ... the party needs to become more welcoming to individuals who disagree with basic Republican doctrine on emotional social issues such as gay marriage... "We're going to have to be a little hands off on some of these issues ... and get people into the party," Paul said.

Wisconsin public unions have lost 30-40 percent of their membership.
We are pretty jazzed because the money freed up by eliminating the fixed costs the unions represented have yielded Wisconsin residents income and now property tax cuts.

So he doesn’t have charisma, but he walks the walk on smaller government and playing chess while his oponents are running to neighboring states or sitting in drum circles.
And he spoke at multiple tea party rallies back in the day.

Walker finishes out term one in 2014. So he will have one full term under his belt before the primary season begins in 2015. Plus he would then have been elected in three times in a State that twice voted pretty significantly for Obama in 08 and 12.
The more important thing is that unlike Obama, Cruz, McCain, and all the other bloviators in Congress, Walker actually has accomplished something.
As noted, he came into a State that was the poster child and inventor of government employee power and largess. And he amazingly de-fanged them, which has now resulted in massive budget surpluses and tax cuts.
But don’t cry for our State workers. Under Walker’s plan, they all basically just took a five percent pay cut in the form of having to pay for their benefits. None got laid off and they all still make good coin. State government is more efficient than ever.
He ultimately may not be charismatic enough. But he’s young, speaks in plain talk and gets things done.
The progs - in BOTH parties - aren't ever going to go for this, as this (welfare) is where some of their *payoffs* come from.
Also, completely unrelated, how DO you do that "reply to no one/no post number" thingy? I've wondered about that, for some time now :-)

Many of the public employee unions have decertified. Act 10 effectively cut off their source of funding since municipalities can no longer withhold union dues and membership is no longer compulsory.
The state now has a $700 million+ budget surplus and there was just a special session to pass another tax cut.
Things aren’t perfect in Wisconsin, but they are going in the right direction. Even though the rats railed against the tax cut, most of them voted for it since it was targeted as property tax relief.
IMHO, Walker is a quiet and humble leader who lets his successes speak for themselves. This book is a little out of character, but then again, this is the AP reporting on him.
The biggest issue for him on the national stage will be his lack of a college degree. But, in that, he is almost the anti-obama. He is an effective leader and gets results, but doesn’t have the book learning liberal elites say you need.
Looks like Walker in going to run.
This is a true reformer with a track record.
Sort of reminds me of Coolidge.
They should brand themselves as leaders for all conservatives and the GOP, leaders who can bring the country back to core principles (which just happen to involve the issues that the Tea Party is talking about).
